to actually chrome a part it takes a few steps of dipping so to do it in your home its gonna have to be paint...i would assume..

I think this is like the old addage of "You get what you pay for".  I have not used it and don't know how it would turn out.  What parts were you looking at plating?

I dont wanna highjack the thread, but what about gold plating? no, not actual gold, but like the gold anodizing they did with the old Yamaha Midnight Special bikes they did in the 70's/80's. Any clue who, where, how, or how much to do this for say windshield molding, or whatever?

AQs for gold plating, I remember seeing ads for selling kits to do it yourself, in Hemmings Motor News.
You may want to check there.
As for the chrome plating, there are like 3 steps of plating, I believe.
Nickel plating is one.
