Topic: Odometer reading 250k miles. Does it really matter on a resto?

How much does original mileage affect value on a car that has undergone a complete restoration?  In Texas most older cars regardless of mileage show actual mileage as "exempt" on the title.  You could set the odometer to 0 after a restoration and it would be perfectly legal based on the Texas title.  I realize that verifiable low mileage on a survivor car is important.  But should I pass on a restorable car because the mileage reads 250k?  Personally, it doesn't matter to me.  I am just curious what other think about this.

It wouldn't matter to me if the odometer has rolled over
If you're planning to do a top to bottom restoration on a non-"survivor", the mileage would be irrelevant IMO.

yeah my car says exempt on the title and it didn't really have a ridiculous amount of miles for her age.

I really have no idea, but I think if you're doing a full restoration it wouldn't matter too much legally if the odometer was at zero. it could of just rolled over anyways.

I set the odometer at zero on another complete rebuild just for maintenance purposes.  The vehicle was basically better than new after all the work we completed.  I am more concerned about whether you guys would pass on a restorable car just because of high mileage.  It doesn't sound like it makes much difference.

I don't think mileage matters on a vehicle that has undergone a complete restoration - I see those advertised as "5K miles since complete restoration" ... depends on what complete means to you.
If you're buying an "original", untouched TA, I guess mileage matters against price.  
If you're buying a rarer vehicle, say an SE, how many are really left?  Mileage or not, I say buy relative to the costs to fix/make it what you want it to be.

I have no idea how many miles my car has, it says expempt also.  I don't care on the miles, I plan to rebuild it anyway and with it being a 10th Anniv they are getting more rare as time goes on.

I agree I don't feel mileage really matters in a complete restoration.If the car were an original untouched survivor, then it might matter. Other then that it wouldn't to me at all.
