Trans Am Nationals 78ta.com/OhioFirebirds Caravan 2009
« on: August 18, 2009, 11:23:55 AM »
Ok, here is the Official routes and times for the Caravan to the 2009 25th Annual Trans Am Nationals.  In previous year's there was a "Pre-Caravan Cook-Out" that was held at my house that Thursday night prior to the trip down on Friday.  I know alot of people who came in from out of state in the previous year's will not be coming out this year.  So I leave it open to anyone who wants to possibly do a cook-out to let me know.

The Caravan will leave from Mentor OH via I-90 close to my house that Friday morning about 8:30am.  We will meet at the Marathon Gas Station there next to Lakeland Community College at 8:00am so that you may have a chance to fuel up and gather any needed items for the trip.  If you wish to meet with the caravan at this point, please contact myself or Hammer.  Last year we had about 6 cars at this point.  The caravan will leave promptly at 8:30am.  We will be taking I-90 East and join up with I-271 South.  I-271 South will Join/End at I-71 South.  We will take I-71 South and stop at Rt. 224 Lodi Exit which is where we stopped last year about 9:50am.  First Leg is about 63 miles.  We will be meeting up with a group of cars coming from the East like Akron, Canton, and any other points from the East.  If you wish to join the Caravan at this point Please contact Brian Miller (Gold78Spc).  Last year, we had about 8 cars join us here.

We will depart the Lodi exit at approx. 10:15am and head back down I-71.  We will then take Rt 30 West and join up with I-75 going South.  There is a Speedway Gas Station there at the exit around Lima, OH and we should arrive there about 12:00pm.  Here we will meet the cars coming down from the North from Michigan and other areas.  Second Leg is about 114 Miles. Again if you want to meet up with the caravan at this point, please contact Joe DiCicco (784mula).  We should have about 6 cars join up with us here for a total of about 20 cars, possibly more.

We will depart from Rt 30 and I-75 about 12:30pm or so and head to the Dayton Marriott and the Trans Am Nationals.  Third leg is about 87 Miles.  We will arrive here at approx 2:00pm.

Any questions, please contact me.  The total distance for this route is 260 Miles.  We have a great time every year with all of these cars.  We will have CB's and cell phones of course to keep everyone together and have a blast.  It is also fun listening to the truckers talk about the cars as they roll down the highway.  I hope to have a great time at the Nationals and also a great time getting there.  So, if you are interested in joining this Caravan, let me know by posting here or sending me a PM.

Unfortunately we will not be at the Nationals this year, finances are just not permitting plus I'm working as an hourly employee with no benefits so any time off I take, I lose big money.  As normal, post lots of pics, sorry I won't be there for this years "butt" award ;)

I know there might be a couple cars coming from the Youngstown area.  I am in the I76/224 area of Akron.  Anyone interested in joining me before heading to Lodi, send me a PM.  Probably going to leave my area around 9am to meet up at Lodi.

I talked with the manager again this morning and he told me about the construction going on down around there.  The main bridge going over to the hotel is closed so he told me that the best way to come into the hotel is by taking the back streets.  Coming from I-75, take Rt. 35 East (Xenia Exit), then get off at the first exit which is the Ludlow Perry Street exit.  Go to the bottom of the ramp and take a right.  The hotel will be about a mile to a mile and a half down on that road past a few stop signs.  He said this would be the easiest/best way to come into the hotel.

how are you coming out of Toronto?  If you are crossing in Buffalo you would be better off to find somewhere to stay in the Mentor Oh area and make the whole cruise !! If you are crossing in Detroit you would travel less miles to meet up at the 3rd stop ( I 75 & sr 30)
