1976 400 AT

I looked at this car today and I am considering buying it.It is a numbers matching California car(it has never left the SF bay area),paint was carosuel red originally.It has a rebuilt trans and front end.He also redid the upholstery and gave it a repaint.According to the owner it has 69k original miles.Anyway see what you guys think.

This is my first post but I have met alot of you guys in chat.

It appears to be a pretty good looking car.  Could use some clean up under the hood but the interior looks pretty good.  Hey just make sure you look it over good.

It's a nice T/A, Whats he asking for it? Make sure you decode the VIN# to see what it really is. Just because it's a CA. car don't assume it's clean, check for any rust under the car, I'm sure he won't let you pull up the carpet but you'll get an ideal of how the floor pans are by crawling on the ground for a few minutes. Same with the trunk. If it's in the Bay area that mean's salt air, check the seams and any of the bolt areas where salt spray could settle, Why do I know these things?  Been there done that  :'( My 2nd 78 T/A came from the Florida coast and the body looked GREAT, after buying it and digging into it a little I found problems like I described. Thats why I'm on my 3rd T/A  ;) Here are some pictures of my 2nd T/A when I bought it....looked great but looks can be deceiving.  I'm not trying to rain on your campfire...I just you to be happy with it after you buy it.

I did check under the car,in the trunk and the usual spots for rust.I have also bought a car that i thought was much nicer and have learned my lesson.I am not exactly sure about TA values and i wanted to get the opinion of what you guys think.The owner was asking 15k and said he would give it to me for 13.5k,I was thinking more like 12k-12.5k.

Looks like a real nice car.  Yes, the engine could use some elbow grease, but the rest looks ok.  I think between $12,000 and $13,000 would be good.

Hitman what ever happend to that Ta for 15.5k?I think it was a 74 or 75?

Or how about this 74 matching numbers 400 AT 17.5k.Looks like when they repainted they did the underside of the hood,cowl and part of the hinges.
