Topic: 79 403 will not idle

i just put the factory carb back on and it will not idle when i put it in gear unless i have idle set at 1250, what could it be

Hard to tell. Can you give any additional info. Was it running before the new carb? Has the timing changed? What are the basic settings on the carb (i.e. how many turns out are the idle adjustment screws, is the choke releasing, etc.)
