Title: Checking bearings with plasticgage
Post by: 1FSTLS1 on August 25, 2008, 11:17:51 AM
Any one provide any details on how this is done.  I found this picture but am not exactly sure what the mark is on there that is being measured.  I have never done this before.

ok plastigauge is a plastic stick that will smash so far to tell you what kind of clearance you have in between you bearings, youll break off a part of the plastic "stick" then set it down on the crankshaft then youll tighten down your main cap and torque it down, then remove and use the measuring guage to determine your clearance.....hope that helps

Evan described it pretty well.  There are generally directions with it when you buy it that help explain it also.
