I just tried installing a brand new Trimparts carpet into my 1980 Firebird. To say this thing fits like crap is an understatement! The carpet I installed last time was a $49 cheapo carpet BUT it fit like a glove! I wanted a better thicker carpet & thought Trimparts would be an 'upgrade'...HA!
Its baggy nearly everywhere; & its supposed to be "molded".
I understand it needs to be trimmed here & there; BUT, the center hump has nearly FIVE INCHES of excess carpet!
If you try & pull it down, the the driver & passenger floor areas bunch up.
Also, the carpet doesnt go all the way to the back wall where the rear upper seat mounts. It BARELY makes it to the hump in the upper rear seat. It goes about 1/2 an inch under. If you sat on the rear seat, you can see the damn insulation on the floor! If you pull the carpet back to compensate for this, the carpet on the firewall area slides below the pedals. It simply isnt long enough.
Sooo....I need to buy a new carpet....again
.... I have seen good & bad about ACC carpets; but I think ANY other carpet would be better than this piece of garbage.
Anybody have any good experiences with ACC or others?
Thanks!
