Hood Scoop Seal\Drain Tube
« on: November 12, 2008, 06:10:57 AM »
Does anyone have any recommendations regarding where to go (be nice, ha ha) to purchase the proper rubber seal and drain tube for the 1978 hood scoop?

Also, a friend of mine purchased an OEM seal through Year One but we were both alarmed that the installation instructions call for the drilling of holes into the scoop and placement of supplied pins that hold the seal on.  Is this really the proper and only way to install a replacement seal?

I did not get to your reply last night (PM) but you simply glue the unit instead of drilling. I have both give us a ring today after 11 am CST if ya wish to order.

Sorry sir, didn't receive your PM but I did send a e-mail to your "sales" e-maiil address earlier yesterday.

Please let me know what the damage ($) is and I'll let you know when I can order it/them.

are the molded drain hoses correct for the 78 t/a?   i thought the molded hose was for 403 olds cars?   78's seem to just be a straight hose from what i have seen.

You are 100% correct...ALL Pontiac motored Trans Ams had a STRIGHT drain hose. 70/76  shaker hoses have a 5/8 ID, and the 77/81 shakers use a 1/2 id hose.  All Olds powered cars used the MOLDED hose.  A lot of guys just go to the hardware store or Autozone and get a piece of heater hose,  BUT THAT LOOKS LIKE POOP.

It simply drains down beside the engine and flows out under the car.

I have my hose running from the shaker to between the back of the power steering pump and block.

The parts manual says to cut a piece of half inch ID hose 20.5 inches long.  As simple as that.

I ordered a replacement seal  atleast 10 years ago and it also had pins that needed holes drilled out,
I just did not install the pins in the seal and used some kind of "weatherstriping " adhesive and mounted it with that.
