Thanks, Joe.  I requested some samples from their website.  Hopefully they'll go ahead and send them out or give me a call.

That is really a cool car.  I love TA's in all colors but I really enjoy seeing the rare ones.  What color is the hood bird on your orange TA?  It looks like the silver.  If so I would like to post it in my Firebird Gallery if that is okay with you.

Wow, this is an old thread...

Just thought I'd drop by to update y'all on the car.  The engine swap was completed around Christmas of '08.

I just had the carb rebuilt (engine wouldn't run with the varnished-up carb...) and am in the process of adjusting the idle, removing the smog pump, and some other miscellaneous underhood projects.  I'm finding more and more issues with the mechanical systems on this car -- for example, in order to properly set the idle speed, the car should be in gear at slow idle with the parking brake set, but the parking brake won't "set."

I got the car out of the shop the other day and washed it for the first time since I bought it in '07 (yeah, it's sad), so I thought I'd throw up some gratuitous pics here at 78TA.

Thanks for the compliments, fellas.

I spent some time with the car today -- set the idle by adjusting, then getting in the car and putting it in gear while holding the brake, then repeating about a dozen times.  Not the way the process is described in the factory Service Manual, but it worked.

I think I've scored a 2-groove water pump pulley from a member over at the 301 Garage, so my smog pump delete should be under way shortly (no more bent smog pulley and screeching belt!!).

I also think I've figured out my parking brake problem -- or at least part of it.  The parking brake cables are routed under the mufflers (which currently aren't being supported by anything other than booger welds on the downpipe...), which doesn't seem right to me.  I think the rear calipers are sticking, as well, so looks like I'll be getting the car up in the air and pulling the rear wheels to see what's going on.

It's a good thing this is my "therapy car," or I'd be stressed out over all the PO's neglect and ill-conceived mods.

Sounds like you have a little work ahead of you but knowing what needs to be done helps a lot!

Well, my "new" pulley came in yesterday, so I ran down and threw it on the car.  I found a belt that's the right size -- no more smog pump squeal!  I also readjusted the idle, so it's running much, much better.

Some new pics to keep this a "pic" thread...

And my girlfriend insisted on taking this one...

Went and fired her up today -- she finally got to meet her older (by 3 months) sister face-to-face.

In the process of securing a title for the gold car right now.  It's gonna have to sit for awhile until I get the orange car on the road and in better shape.

I've considered maybe a 4.8L Vortec truck motor, bored to 301 ci, with a Garrett T3, air/air intercooler, and a TKO 6-speed.  Of course, seeing as how it's a hard-to-find color (for an '81), and it's hard to find one with the C&C tops, it might get restored, as well...

Wow just found this or just forgot can't remember anymore. But love the color but I have a book at home that has a orange 81 t top turbo with charcoal decals in it and is very sharp. Its a old book will look when I get home but I have no way of.posting up a pic.another odd color that I like is the bronze,  saw one in our club back in the 80,s.
