OMG Christmas came early! Did you get your wheels refinished ? I didn't know you can buy a factory front emblem still
-
oh boy....those look good :)
-
the emblem i got 2 years ago at the nationals in dayton. i think its a gm repo. but looks good and fits nice. the wheels were done by joe at f-body warehouse. decals came from http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm.htm
jegs had the headers. a/c delete from http://www.acdelete.com/pages/70-81_F-Body.htm
the mis parts from http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~body~cadeflbk
-
what color do I paint it. white or black. I love black, but they are like an a__ hole. every body has one. white is bad a__, and you don't see it very much. and both are hard to keep clean. dark blue is nice. but don't like it with the gold bird. any blue.
-
Great looking parts! She's going to be a beautiful car! Keep us updated with plenty of pics.
-
I haven't even got this one done , and I'm looking for the next one to work on. I found a 77 w72 4 speed motor and trans. but need the car. any one have a fair to good 77 4 speed trans am for sale? I prefer a t-top car. or a title ,body tag, vin plate, build sheet will work to.

-
be really different and paint it green lol
-
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? no :P ;D
-
Deep metallic purple with gold stripes would look awesome. Or just paint it gold :)
-
I think they were sent to the wrong house!!! Very nice dude, cannot wait to see it all on!!
-

The reproductions are good, just got my automatic console in today from Ames Performance.
-
whats wrong with blue and gold? you have a sanded down twin of this one.
-
looking at that pic what was I thinking? that was a really really really sharp car.
-
here is a few pics of my first car. I got it at age 14. and and it sat for years and worked on it off and on for 7 years it was blue with blue bird kit. so I like the blue, just not the gold. my preference. I sold her 2 years ago. and regret it.

Hey -- those pics were taken on Friday this year in Dayton! I remember the car -- and that's Raven's Avalanche with the red 78 in the background in the first shot. Too bad we didn't know who you were -- you probably ran into a bunch of us and just didn't know it. ???
-
I prob did, I try to talk to as many people as I can to get ideas for my car. my first time going there was the 9th annual.I just never could afford to build a car to show it off.
-
I love all the new parts and your old car looked super sleak. what was the rear spoiler off of? it looks sharp. and y88rick i like the blue and gold. down't look bad at all, its called being different it just makes your car stick out which is never a bad thing
-
nope being different is never a bad thing. however that blue gold combo was all factory and never painted and until i seen its sanded down twin, i have never seen another blue and gold one. i do like the colors and i really wish i didnt sell it especially now that spring is here however my basement is getting closer to done and my wife is happy with that 2 credit cards are paid off and i do own a y82 thanks to selling that car but having a 40,000 mile car vs a crap box y82 there is no comparrison.
-
its what the car means to you thats most important my car isn't special at all when it comes to numbers, but to me its the world. Its what you make of it that is the real value of the car
-
the deck lid is called a whales tail. all the fiberglass work on her is all hand laid glass work. I did not order them, I made them. a friend of mines dad drag raced with a guy that did glass work he had the molds for them. he was retired from it and he helped me make them. I had about 100 bucks in materials. and a lotttttt of time in them. once pulled from the mold, I cut off the deck lid skin and glassed the tail on. and the hood I used a firebird hood so I didn't cut up my shaker hood.
I have 2 79 t/a's now. once I get my 4 speed done. the other will get the oem look but all the parts on it will be glassed on the car. going to lower the car 2" and chop the top 2" , shave the doors . and put my 77 W72 motor in it with a th400 auto trans with rev. manual shift kit.
-
can any one tell me. since I took the a/c out of the car . and putting a non-a/c dash bezel in. can I change the heater control to? or will I need to change the hole heater box under the dash? i took the box off the firewall to. and put an a/c delete box on it.
-
wow that sounds like it will look really sleak i dont think i have ever seen a trans am with a chopped top before. should turn out really nice. i am takin welding classes this summer so i can start doing stuff like that i cant wait
-
thats a cool looking t/a and even better sounding custom t/a. goodluck with everything.
-
welding classes ? you don't need no stinking welding classes. any body can pull a trigger. (mig) . but if you really want to learn to weld, learn to stick weld first. its not that hard. I could teach you in about 2 hr's. I am certified In all 4. mig tig stick and brazing. get you a 1/4" piece of flat stock and a buz box (stick welder) and some 1/8" or smaller 6011 rods and just try to spell you name on the piece of stock. when you figure out the right temp and speed to run the rod. try it on a thinner piece. and so on. wile turning the temp down as you go thinner. smaller rods for thinner metal to. once you get the jist of it mig is a brezzzzzzzzzzz. that's just a temp and wire speed. this has been a crash course in welding 101. $50 dollars plezzzzzzzzz. make check payable to,,,, just joking. ;
-
haha no i know my friend could teach me but my dad really wants to learn too and i think he is excited to take some classes with me. for a little father son bonding. so i figure whats an hour a week to make the old man happy. plus he will be buying the welders and he said he wouldn't unless we take classes. haha :/ im stuck
-
ya I chopped a top on a 79 iroc years ago. it was bad as_. we went 3" on it. it was to low for me to set in. it was a hard top car. I'm going 2" on a t-top car. I was told it could not be done buy a body guy. will see.. and they told me I couldn't tub a t-top car to. DID IT. :P
-
thats so sweet do you have any photos of the iroc?
-
sorry no i never took any of it. there is some pics on paper someware but Lord nows were.
-
They're probably in those shoeboxes in the back of the closet, with all your other pics from back in the day. Did anybody ever really put all of those in albums and label them all? ??? ???
-
the last time my wife got them out, most of them were stuck together. and pitched them. she kept the kids pics . none of my car pics. (its just a picture of a dam car) . go figure. pure >:D
-
Seriously my dad has a box of stuff in the basement that is from when he was in college im like yur lucky you even have that box if mom had a say that thing would be gone. but she knows not to mess with that box
-
i have never seen a 79 iroc i wish you had some pics of it. i thought the irocs didnt come out until 85? with this t-top chop, are you going to bring the pillars back or extend the t-top opening? if you extend the t-top opening i assume your never going to run t-top glass in it then? or do you have some sleek hook up on the glass?
-
also what are you doing to the back glass to make that fit too? i have never seen a chop top gen 2 f-body before so im just really curious as to your plan of execution on it. too bad you didnt have pics of the other chop top i'd really like to see how it turned out.
-
sorry Z28
-
putt the glass from a 70 to 73? in it. you still need to cut all the glass. there is a lot of work framing it for the back glass. it almost lays down flat. as for the tops I'm not sure yet. it will be a hard top car being chopped. and I have a rusted out t top parts car, I will cut the tops off and install them into the chopped car. but first the body mounts will be changed to soled and some frame work done. prob a drop cross member and 4 link and coil over's.
-
to get back to the car I'm working on. here is a pic of the back panel. I hadn't seen one like this in a long time.

Wow nice just on that quarter panel and floor boards that came out really nice. I really wanna get into welding so i can do stuff like that. all i need is a welder and a sandblaster and a lot of practice. Good job looks great
-
thanks, I try. its tuff welding that thin metal. ;)
-
looks good. I see how your doing the chops now. that makes sence to use a 70-74 back glass thats where i was puzzled. sounds like a lot of work yet really sweet.
-
I'll see how this summer goes, work wise. if I have the funds to start on it. I saw the new 17x9's the other day. nice wheel. I may but them on it, tub it a little, bring the tiers in a bit. and drop the car on the ground. putting the tiers up in the quarters and fenders about 3 or 4 inches. I hope the car will set at 4 feet off the ground.
-
pics of the motor. cleaned and checked. all good. 75 YT block, decked .30 , 75 6x 8's milled .30 , intake milled to fit. 69 N crank. cam will be close to the specks of the W72 cam. 1974 carb is a 263

Looking really good! :D :D
But I'll have to admit that I (personally) would sleep better at night if I knew you were going out tomorrow and getting a set of heavy duty jack stands to replace the stacked up wooden blocks you're using. A friend of mine nearly lost an arm when a bottle jack rolled off a wooden block and trapped him underneath the vehicle he was servicing. Had he been a few inches to the right he'd have died from crushing trauma. Your setup there kind of scares me looking at it over the Internet. :o
-
yes I agree with you on the wood. I didn't really see how bad it was until I looked at the pics. I will fix it tomorrow. I just ordered my exhaust system today from pipes. and headmen headers from Jegs. motor is about 3 week from being done. just about done blocking the car for paint. B/W 4 speed is getting new bushings and clutch.

-

i will use the 8 track , i have others, just AM-FM?
-
Need am/fm 8 track for my 78. I think the radio you have in your car was for the s/e models no? I can see the gold trim on the tape door. Looks like the unit is in very good shape.
-
