One of the reasons for looking for a tank is because my filler neck is leaking somewhat... I know nothing about the gas tanks, so sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, does having a leaky filler neck work better with re-using it on a different tank? Or would it make more sense to just re-solder the one I have on the tank I have now?

The reason your filler neck is leaking is most likely due to someone leaning on the fuel nozzle while filling the tank. You can have the neck and the top where the tubes come out fixed. They install a reinforcing ring on the filler neck and solder it.
I had mine done by a local shop. The guy had one eye and was missing an arm
