This is a not a tilt column. Wish it was. I looke in my Haynes manual and searched online at different sites and none of them said anything different then the retaining screw method. Oh well. At least now I can grease up the moving parts.

Easy to swap a non tilt for a tilt.  I did it on my four speed.

You can find one for about $100 or cheaper.  But usually it's best to rebuild them.  Take them apart, grease everything and install new bearings.  It doesn't matter if the column is from a automatic or manual transmission.  But you need one for a 78 or 77.  I'm not sure if 76 and older would work too.

Then you swap the reverse light switch from your existing column if the tilt is from an automatic.  The ignition switches differ from tilt to non tilt.  The non tilt pushes the ignition switch while the tilt pulls it, so the functions are reversed one to the other.
