Electrical problems now! **yeah!, it's fixed**
« on: January 16, 2010, 03:53:31 PM »
What next?

Frank installed the new/used lighter, and redid the headliner, and now everything is shorting out in the interior.  No curdosity (sp?) light, no dome light!
Frank is good at electrical and this really has him stumped!

Is there any tool out there to pin point the electrical short?

The only thing i can think of is doing things like killing the power to one thing at a time and seeing if it is the problem. process of elimination.

Oh, I am sure he has done that already.  He has been working on this for 4 hours now!  Poor guy!

I think I am going to sell this one and buy a different one.   :'(

He could have either wired the cigarette lighter backwards or grounded the courtesy light wire.

It's fixed.  The socket for the cigarette lighter was bad.

The socket for the cigarette lighter was bad.

That happens more often than you'd think.

Interesting tidbit:  The Marine Corps is now deploying their new M-ATV, which is an off-road version of the new MRAP series of vehicles.  The builder generously equipped it with lots of power ports/cigarette lighter plugs so personnel can use their iPods/MP3 players, etc.  They figured that if they did NOT provide that kind of power access, the troops would just hack into the vehicle's wiring harnesses anyway.  Car & Driver magazine has a report on it in the March 2010 issue.
