New wheels!
« on: June 14, 2007, 11:42:57 PM »
I purchased these on eBay a few weeks ago, sanded all the chipping clearcoat, and polished them up. The black inserts weren't in bad shape so I left them alone, but next year I'll powdercoat them if I still have the wheels on the car. I know the pics aren't great, I'll have to take it somewhere for some better pics this weekend maybe. Anyway, they're third gen 16x8 GTA wheels and the tires are 245/50ZR16 Falken Ziex ZE512's. Kind of sucks that I had to go with a narrower tire, as I was running 295/50/15's. Surprisingly though, they hook up unbelievably well. Actually better than the 295/50/15's. When I first put them on, I was like omg this is a bad idea, as it wheelhopped like CRAZY. But then the stickers wore off the back tires from a few burnouts.   :-*

Wheel after sanding/polishing to a mirror shine.  ;D

I ordered some spacers for the rear wheels as I'm not happy with their placement in the wheelwells, but overall I'm very happy with this decision. Now all I need to do is install the lowering kit.  ;D

You can see the new tires as well as my new headlights.  ;D

Next rear tires I think may be some Hooiser 275/45/16's, they're not street legal from what I hear, but that doesn't concern me as I don't try to drive it in the rain :P

Anyway, definate upgrade from these, IMO. But don't get me wrong, I still love the snowflakes and they will remain in use on a different T/A since the tires were still pretty darn close to new.  8)

Most of the time you have to use 4 front wheels to get the offset to look right on those GTA rims

The front wheels are on the back, and the rear wheels are on the front. The rears on the front look fine, but the fronts on the rear look too far in.

George,

I REALLY like the stance of your car with them! Got any full shots of it?

A little offtopic, but does that 70-74 car in the background have a VINYL top?

George,

Interesting bit on that '74! In the first picture you posted it appeared that the side window was just a dummy window, but from the ones you just posted I can see they're real windows. I don't think I've ever seen that!

Do you run rear spacers on your black T/A? It appears as if your wheels are almost directly at the lip of the rear wheels, mine sit quite a bit inward of that. Very nice car though! What size tires are you running? 245/50?

Probably why I've never seen one, I've never been to Cali! :)

Maybe your car just appears to have more offset than mine because it's quite a bit lower.

I installed my rear lowering kit and it leveled the car out PERFECTLY, but I'm still kind of unhappy with the wheelgap. It's still about two inches too high in the rear, and an inch too high in the front. But as you can see in this picture, I'm flirting with disaster if I lower it any more with my headers.

The new wheels/tires are just taunting the old tires/rims  :D I had those lower 2 tires on the rear of the T/A for 5 years and atleast 20 good burnouts, and they still look darn near new. I couldn't destroy them. Lets hope my '76 can do better.  ;D
