As the title says, I'd like to see some detailed pics of original Q-jets sitting on 400 engines(or a 455 in the case of 76) in 76-79 TA's. Restored pics would be nice, but they don't have to be to show what I need to see. I have 79's with 403's, so I would like to see what difference there is with the style of carb, the throttle lever setup, accelerator/kickdown cable bracket, and the chokes on the Pontiac engines. Also, if you can post the 8 digit carb number, that would be great too. Please state what transmission you have too. I'll eventually be swapping in a Pontiac, so I need to know these things ;D . Thanks alot!

78 W72 800cfm carb and intake for a auto trans.

74 455 manual trans 800cfm
the older carbs have a shorter inlet and the hot air choke tube feed in the rear.

That was fast!  ;D

Those are great pics and it's a beautiful setup. I've never seen a big heat shield like that on the 78 w72 setup.

What's the number on that 78 carb if you don't mind? Thanks!

That's great! That's very helpful. I'll save that list. Thanks again  :) .

If anyone has more pics that they'd like to show, please do. Thanks!

4SPEED, one thing I noticed about your carbs is that you have the accelerator pump lever rod hooked into the outer hole on the lever. It looks a bit crooked that way, not straight up and down. The q-jets I have and others I've seen are connected to the inner hole. So, just thought I'd mention that in case you might want to look into that to make sure whether it's right or not.

That is what hole the service manual says it should go in.

Heres the one on my 455. The engine is a 74.

Those are great pics and it's a beautiful setup. I've never seen a big heat shield like that on the 78 w72 setup.

What's the number on that 78 carb if you don't mind? Thanks!

The choke shield was a two year deal specific to 78 and 79 400's.  I'm not sure if it was used on non W72 engines though.

mmmm, there was no choke shield on my all original '78 W72, though it was a Jan.'78 build might have something to do with application?

my intake is a Oct. 77 casting date .  is your intake drilled and tapped for the bolt that holds the heat shield on?

the heat shield must have been in the works for some time. because I have a 75 intake with the mount but its not drilled/tapped
