Is it ok for me to post a question here on the '84 Firebird?
« on: March 26, 2011, 03:08:03 PM »
I have a question regarding a "clunking" noise on the '84.

Would any of you be able to answer it?  I have a video of the clunking noise, and maybe someone can identify it.

Thanks!! ;D

Ok

Here it is!

Listen closely around the 33-36 mark as the car is going down the cul de sac.  You'll hear two clunks.

It happens occasionally.  Now, what I can see, is that round thingy thing that is between the two rear tires has wetness at the bottom of that part.  I can also see some of the gasket coming out.  My 1st thought was, gear oil has leaked out causing this sound.

Rear stablizers were replace along with the UV Joints.  New shocks are in there, so I am not really sure what is making this sound.  It shifts fine and drives good.

This was Tony's first time EVER to drive a manual and he did FABULOUS!!

Check the transmission mount, if its broken the trans will hit the floorboard upon acceleration making a clunking noise.
3rd gens are notorious for breaking Tranny mounts.
