What size is the fuel line
« on: August 11, 2006, 10:36:52 PM »
I want to replace my rubber fuel line to and from the fuel pump (it appears to be pretty soft) and I want to buy it before I start to remove the old pieces.  Does anyone know what diameter that rubber fuel line is?

Fuel line supply is 3/8". Vapor return is 5/16". Be especially wary of the rubber line behind the left front tire. Mine had a pinhole in it after 27 years. Neighbor ringing the bell telling me about the puddle outside got me on it. Man, can you imagine in a garage?  It's about a foot long piece of 3/8" hose from the frame rail metal line to the crossmember metal line. Took all of 10 minutes to fix,but those GM pinch clamps are a pain.

Right. Earlier this year my car would bog down on WOT cuz of lack of fuel.  Well after a new pump and some ignition stuff found out it was that piece of hose.  It was so old it would suck shut under heavy loads.

Since you mentioned that - that's why I replaced mine.  I was under the car when it was running and I noticed that the fuel pump was causing that line to collapse on every cylce.  I put on a new line and it's better, but still seems to do the same thing.  Is that normal or do I have a restriction somewhere?

You may have a restriction on your inlet screen inside the fuel tank.
