Title: Hot start issue 69 FB 350 4BL
Post by: pspjim on May 25, 2020, 04:11:28 PM
I have a 69 FB with a 350 that runs fine except when hot (and in hot weather 110+ degrees in Palm Springs) it is difficult to restart, turns over very slowly, my kid brother says it needs starter insulation?  Opinions?

A heat shield would be helpful, especially if you're using headers.
A high compression engine would also benefit from a high-torque mini starter

You could also check the timing. If it is off it can make it difficult to start.

Just FYI a heat shield should have some space between it and the starter to allow airflow or be on the headers themselves. A heat shield on the starter itself or one of those soft heat wraps will prevent the starter from cooling. Ask me how I know lol.
