1971 Firebird Cowl and Firewall Color
« on: August 27, 2011, 05:22:43 PM »
What color should the firewall and cowl be on a 1971 Firebird? Is the firewall red oxide or semi-gloss black? Is it the same for a 1973 Formula? Is it the under body that is red oxide?

Red oxide primer under the floors. GM chassis black for the cowl and firewall, it's a little less sheen than satin black but not so matt as flat black. Satin would be easier to clean and also better at hiding imperfections than gloss and matt finishes though.

Thanks for the information! That is what I was thinking, but I just wasn't 100% sure. All of the cars I have done so far have been 1979 - 81 T/As. This is the first early car I have started!
