Ignition wiring help
« on: December 13, 2008, 08:14:20 AM »
Does any one know off hand what wires go to the ignition coil?  It has been a long time since I took this thing apart.  I should need two + wires and 1 neg right?  When the key is in the on position the coil should have 12v?

Usually it's easy to see the coil feed and tach wires with
their clips in about the right place for the dizzy.

The coil feed is the "EY" wire yes.

No negative wire though. There are CCC system grounds in the
1981 harness though.

What kind of shape is your harness in?

I want to make sure I am doing this right EY should go to the + on the ignition coil and that wire should add +12v in the cranking position and in the on position of the key?  Right?  Then wire FY tach should go where?  There are no plugs on the end of my wires.

Not sure what one of the setups I should be looking at in the instructions

Yes Sir, again <grin>  "EY" is the power feed to the ignition.

Figure 8 looks like the GM HEI choice to me. (what came stock)

In that illustration (Fig. Eight) it talks about what to do with the
tach lead. They say to attach the tach lead to the negative
coil terminal.

But... if you are uncertain still, I'd call Mallory's tech help line.

It seems pretty straight forward to me, but I'm not an expert
on their products.

Me too but it is always good to have another opinion and set of eyes.  Thanks
