Three Heritage Brown TA's at the BanOne show in Georgia. You don't see that many, so three at this show was pretty cool.  One was a 403 car, mine and the unrestored one are W72 cars :)

Mine on the right, and I can't remember the other gentleman's name.  That's the original paint on his!!!

Pretty much untouched W72 car in the foreground, car wasn't in show but should have been.

rainman, thanks for the comments on that pic, one of my favs too, but this pic is the best i have of it, i have a basic camera and i'm a novice at taking pics, i just think the back drops are important, and this one is a local cemetery that is one of the largest in the world.

limey, is that a pic from a local junkyard or what, the shot is sick, i would like to have one like that?

where are the rest of the brownies?

I wish i had a picture of my mothers cousins T/A from when i was a child... he had a 77SE that he custom painted all 3 of the brown hues... starting from the front was the lightest shade then it blended to the medium shade at the fender/door seam then  to the darkest  just behind the door. Replaced the decals and pinstripe of the SE and it was eye candy.  I know most think it would look tacky but you have to think back in the day when customization was the craze. it was truely a one of a kind. now this was not your typical division line it was actually a transition of hue change and then several coats of clear.
The last time I seen them I had my T/A at my mothers house and he was in awe over the one I have and he stated... "If I only had mine back"....

renovations or hammer,

could you please remove this gold bird from this thread!!!  maybe since he is my brother and has been in my car several times we can let him slide and be a wanna be brown.   just had a thought, you are getting it painted soon, go brown.

Thanks,  the tire size is 225/70/15.  When I bought the car from my brother he tried to drive it from the east coast to Kansas on the original tires.  Shortly after he started out the tires went south and had to stop to get a new set of sneakers for her.  We decided to put on a cheap set of tires  since the car would sit alot of the time once it got out here.

I've had my bird now for 4 years.  My brother bought it with 15K on the clock from the original owner with the intentions of painting it black and doing the SE stripes but decided against it.  So he sold it to me with 17K on it and after doing a power tour run and some joy rides she now has 21K.

My plans for the car is to replace the bad sheetmetal, paint and replace the suspension. Then drive it. She runs really well. I acquired a set of 15x8 snowflakes...but thinking the 17 inch snowflakes might make their way on it. ;)

the 15x8's  look great with 255/60/15's on em.  i had rally's that were perfect and switched to 15x8 snows and really like the look.

77tafrommo,

nice rig, how long have you had it.  what heads are those edelbrock d port, or the rpm's.  how much performance are you getting out of your set up.  i ported my heads and brought back the d ports i bought to save some $.   i also bought some inexpensive headers and was wondering your opinion of the doug ones you bought.  what cam do you have.  i also had rally wheels and recently bought snowflakes with the head money i saved.  i had the wrong center caps and wanted the ones you have but could not find any new ones for under 90 a piece, ridiculous, so i got the flakes.

your paint looks great in the pics.  what size tires are they, sorry for all the questions.

77tafrommo,

Squirrel,    the paint looks decent 20 feet, but is some minor surface rust and some previous repair that were not done properly. I have RPM heads, but honestly wish I would have spent more time on this site before buying. For the same money I could have put in a stroker, ported the heads, bumped the compression and had probably more streetable power. I have not dynoed the motor as of yet, but estimate with 72cc heads and rest of the mods were around 475-500 horse. I have been fightling detonation, but still need to have Maryland Bandit redo my carb so I can see if I am just leaning out too much. I have had the car for 3 years, I do not remember the cam specs, I have posted them in the past on this site and I am not sure on the tire size.....I really was a lot of help ! Anyway got to love the Brown Birds......!

Brown seems like a rare color for any car these days. I think black sets off the brown as well as chrome. I am looking for "old school" louvers. I think they look best on the brown....
In the future I want to put on some new wheels. I am thinking of 17" gold snowflakes or 17" chrome cragers. Also want to lower the car a little. Right now I am getting ready to rebuild my engine...(slight rod knock) this is the 3rd engine in a year. I need to do something with the gear ratio. At 3000 I am cruising at aprox 70mph.  I drove the car from michigan to florida. I blew the first engine in georgia. I put in a 1970 gto ram 3 engine with "67" 670 heads. The car was running good. I went to a car show and spun a bearing on the highway. I am going to try and rebuild it myself..... So Basically I am just going to replace the rotating assembly..... Already got the parts....

130k. It took 2 years but it had a repaint, motor & transmission rebuild, interior freshend up and the wheels were redone. Along with a bunch of other little things. People could'nt believe that was a factory color. I wanted a black or brown metallic one. I wanted a black TA but ended up with a Y88. Gold is somewhat close to brown though.

i peg at 3000 rpm's at 65 mph, but that is because i put new 3.42 rear gears in, no problems so far, but my engine is completely rebuilt along with tranny.  i had 2.56 and was about 1800-2000 at 65 mph but the car was a dog off the line, now it screams.

Damon23,
Beautifull Z-28, a friend back in High School circa 1982 had one exactly like yours same color tan interior with a 4 spd, I used to love that car cause of the rare color.
Was yours a 4spd, wonder if it's the same car.
Another rare color for 79 Z-28s  was that pale green, I have not seen one like yours or the green one in over 20 years.

looks like a tight car although the wheels are filthy.  did you surprise everyone there by liking and taking pics of a brown bird.  nice tops.

na mate not a surprise at all,as ive told a couple people before,TA's in general are rare over here and even the fugly ones get lots of photos taken
How rare do you ask?....went to  Hanging Rock car show on the weekend which is the biggest here in Victoria, out of 3000 classics that turned up you had 5 TA's and a similar number of Firebirds

This is my Brentwood Brown when I first got it last year...  Sadly it's not staying brown, it's going black, but I'm keeping the buckskin interior. Sorry, it'll be brown at heart at least...

Lol!!! it gets feisty sometimes on me... No, that was the morning that I loaded it up on a trailer to drop it off to get a complete brake system done on it (brakes were GONE!!!).  It was super cold that morning and the car was still warming up.  Whats funny, is that I loaded it on to a trailer to go get the brakes done, just to pick it up a couple days later to drive it 30min down the road to drop it off to be restored... But man those brakes were nice when I got it back, (I could of stopped on a dime) even though I only got to enjoy them for a 30 minutes drive, lol.

Post by: Jimmys77 on February 20, 2011, 10:51:30 AM
No not going with a full SE style, the car is going to be all black (including grills/ trim) (exterior) with a custom hood bird (kinda like the BRE but not as much gold) and sail panel birds, no pinstripes (as of now) with the 17 YO gold rims.  I want something that kinda shouts me, but stays close to home.  As far as the interior, it's staying buckskin for the most part (color might be a little off) only things really changing on the inside is the add of modern radio (map pocket w/org radio still in) and red birds are being switched to gold.  plus adding the shifter engine tuned plate to match the dash. Bottom line I love black painted cars but I don't want a SE clone, so there are somethings that I want to take from the SE style, just not the whole thing.

It is a 403. I'll see if I can get the guy to chime in. I know they spent a lot of time with Mondello on this. The owner wanted to have something different and if you look at the car you'd never know a conversion was done. This car was in a basement for many year. I'm going down to check the collection out in a few weeks. I'll take a bunch of pictures of it.

I spotted this one in Atlanta today!  79 Heritage Brown 403 TA.  Looked mostly original,(build sheet was in car) couple of little things,(T-A 6.6) but seemed to be solid.  With a little work could be very nice.  Looks like it was in the 09 Bandit Run :)

But here are some pix.....

I thought 77 and 78 were the same brown, but some cars look much darker than others... like the diference between TAhuntress (sweet car!) and Squirrel's car (sweet car too!)... what's the deal?  Just the pic - or is there really a difference?  What is the name of the darker brown if there is a difference?

Lastly - My hood bird decal is supposedly original but is the newer style like 79's have - did they start that style in late 78?

Thanks!   :)  I think I'm gonna go with the rallys for a while...maybe always.  I like them on this car.  My 77 Camaro...not so much.  I believe those are 14's though.   I had to get  Cragar SS on the Camaro quick.  I'm hanging on to the stock wheels of course.  They also have tires on them, so...another pile of wheels and tires is not what I want right now.  I don't particularly like the tires on the TA, but they were just put on by the previous owner to run the car through Mecum and they only have 300 miles.  SO I'll keep em until they need to be replaced or a cash windfall comes my way.

So that's the deal.  I saw earlier today that the GM code was identical for the three and wondered.   ???  Didn't pay attention to the other info.  I wonder why they didn't just change the GM code since they ARE different colors and not simply name changes.

I'm on the same page with you.  I tend to lean towards the "earthier" colors.  My 77 Camaro is Light Buckskin (tan) and I just love it.  Not a very common color.  Someone on this thread posted a pic of their Z that is the same color.  I think it's a "love it" or "hate it" color though for sure.

Yeah...the Chesterfield seems to have warmer, almost copper undertones.  I'm not as familiar with the Heritage...will look.  Anyway....BROWN ROCKS!  Mine will get a repaint some day down the road and will most definitely remain Brentwood Brown.   :)

i think brown is over looked because whenever you find a brown one, the paint is faded and not very appealling, but look how it looks with a nice new paint job... beautiful!!

agree, i love all shades of brown on a ta.  a guy stopped me at a gas station and asked why i did not paint it black, i told him that brown was the factory color and he did not believe me, tool.

I used to own a beige 79 Z28. You could only imagine the comments I got. "That could'nt have been factory", "Why did you paint it that color.", "Ewe".

Damon23,
Beautifull Z-28, a friend back in High School circa 1982 had one exactly like yours same color tan interior with a 4 spd, I used to love that car cause of the rare color.
Was yours a 4spd, wonder if it's the same car.
Another rare color for 79 Z-28s  was that pale green, I have not seen one like yours or the green one in over 20 years.

Beautiful!!  I LOVE this color!!  I looked to buy a 77 Z last month that was this body color but the decals were orange and red and the interior was RED RED RED.  Talk about a unique combo.  LOVE OR HATE.  My 77 is this color...Light Buckskin with a Buckskin interior.  I adore it.

Short answer..... it isn't going at all....  project is dead in the water waiting on a break in the work routine.  I got it running pretty good and I think it will pass inspection.  That will let me register it .  I transferred the title but in TX you have to have an inspection to register it.  Then I plan to tear into to it in a serious way....   Thanks for asking.
