Wheels flares on 1978 Trans Am (extra flares behind arches)
« on: September 18, 2016, 04:56:13 AM »
Hi,

I have an original 1978 Y84 SE which I've had for about 10 years. I am about to respray it but I am just confirming a few things before I do. My car has extra flares which sit behind the front and rear wheel arches. They are obviously not original and I can't find a single picture of another TA with the same flares anywhere on the net. I prefer them because they look more balanced around the arch and also save the doors and rear panel from stone chips. My problem will be when I put the new gold stripe on (currently has incorrect decals), they obviously won't fit correctly.

Anyway my question is, does anyone know where these flares might have come from ?  Did some company sell these at some point ?

thanks
Dave

Search for Foilers. Others also reversed the front flares to fit.

Along with the pre-molded stripes you can also get rolls of stripe, combine to fit custom areas.

Thanks Aus. Yes, Ill probably need to use the separate roll of stripe as long as it is the same thickness as the moulded stripes. The current stripes on mine are done with that and it's pretty average looking.

The Firebird specialist decal guys like Phoenix Graffix and similar sell them so should match theirs in colour, size and quality, not just random gold foil rolls from SuperCheap!

If you're still on Camaro-firebird.org I think Jim with the white 73 had foilers and recently repainted it, not sure if he refitted them though. Actually, it was a 74 and just refitted the 73 front hence the paint job.

I have a set. I got them from Classic IIRC. They're more flexible than the hard plastic stock ones.

Dear Not A TA,
This is Tin Indian's wife. Would you please stop posting pictures of your car? Especially ones with er, ummm, sidepipes. I'm dizzy already and have to get up early in the morning.  :-X
