Hi all............ :wink:
Me name is Dave I live in Dublin Ireland just came across this site thought I'd say hello..
am 39 years old married with three kids
I drive an 1980 4.9 turbo T,A...
Thank god for eBay.... HAHA
anyway just thought id wave a hand..... and introduce myself..
look forward to getting to know some of you in the future...
for now id like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy NewYear..

Thanks for getting back to me about the pictures. I'd really like to see the car. It sounds like you put a lot of time and effort into having something that you are proud of, and you should be proud. Post a photo when you get a chance.....no hurry. I'll be looking forward to seeing it.
I would like to hear the rest of the story you started telling about your car. I have a story about my car too. I bought my car while I was away on business in London, England from a man that lived 20 minutes away from my home in the state of Ohio in the USA. Imagine being in the UK and seeing the car of your dreams while you were a 10 hour flight away from home and having to negotiate over the phone and by email. I sent my next door neighbor to the mans house to put a $500.00 down payment on it until I got home the next week. If I was home the car was only a 20 minute car ride from my house in the States. My story is lengthy too so this is the Readers Digest version of my story.

.........I'm having a little trouble loading pictures this one is also a little big.....as soon as I have some time to play around..........I'll master the art of posting pics on this board..
it's just slightly different from other boards I do be on..
anyway my friend that's my baby.....all original as I could get it.. except for the Wheels..... the only ones I could find available at the time when I bought Her.. and I kind of like the look of them so I left them on...
I am currently on the lookout for another TA....I've always wanted THE 6.6...with the manual gearbox............extremely rare to find in this neck of the woods or in the UK.....
but I have managed to find one....actually going over to the UK next month hopefully to pick it up and bring it home...was originally going to try and import one from your side at the pond..
it's not exactly what I'm looking for it has a few modifications I would prefer to be in standard spec.........but I'll get my head around them issues down the road and resolve them........but it does have the one thing I most desire and that is the manual gearbox...
Il post a pic up if as soon as I get this loading issue resolved...

a friend of mine on another board import this from the state a couple of months ago and circumstances have changed for him quite dramatically
so he has offered it for sale to myself subject to inspection of course as I have not actually seen the car.....although I would prefer it in standard spec not necessarily matching numbers or anything like that...just with its standard nose fitted, original wheels, and a Pontiac 6.6 under the hood....
not sure if you will agree with me but I do like the TA to look as close to original as possible....I personally think this is the only way they should be kept........
not that I've anything against anyone who wants to modify them...each to their own I suppose...
but if the deal works out on this one I will de modify it..... HEHEHE...

Hey RSD,
I like your ride! I am the first to admit that I am inspired by an all original car. You did very nice jobl putting that ride of yours back together. Beautiful paint from what I can see from the pictures. Your right the wheels kind of grow on you, and gives it that personal touch.
The second car looks closer to original. It would probably take next to nothing to get that car back to 100% original. Also, I see that Lovitt's Auto is selling the car so you gotta LOVE THAT!
Thanks for posting the pictures. I really appreicate it. They both look very vice but I am particial to your old baby in the Black & Gold. It still excites you and I can tell. I like it. Good luck on the other car from the UK. Hope you get her too.

Good to know there's some T/As on the Ould Sod!!! :lol: Didn't see any in the 2 weeks I was in Ireland back in 01... good to know there's at least one!!! :wink:

I'm not surprised you didn't see any..they are a rare site on this Little Rock Jon.
I Think you would be doing very well to find 15 TA,s in the whole country
and out of that number a very small proportion of them would be good examples........... due to poor maintenance....... and high running costs....the motor tax alone on a TA here is 1,200 euro a year.
actually one of the best examples I have ever seen in this country was imported from TAspecialists...an absolutely beautiful 77 SE...
you see the problem is unfortunately over here there is absolutely nowhere you can bring a TA
or any old American car for that matter....to have it worked on..
mechanics generally steer clear of them for fear of breaking something and not being able to get the Part..........
So if you cannot look after them yourself you are knackered...

From what I understand you are taxed according to the size of the engine... on and island were anything over 2.0L is considered big (correct me if I'm wrong) that good old 400 between the frame rails of my T/A seemed positively obese to them!!!! :lol:

HAHA.. you are absolutely right Jon...
Cars here are taxed according to engine size..
the average family size car here has a 1.6 engine fitted..
people generally think hard before buying anything over that size
running costs are just too high..
short example
Tax on a 1.6 570 euro
cost of insurance for let's say a 30 year old with a clean licence 1,200/1,500 euro
petrol (GAS)at an average cost of 1.10 euro a litre..
so most people tend to try and keep the car engine size as small as possible..
unless of course you are young and single.....
then it gets and little nuts by our standards
most guys average age 25 to 30 and single prefer to drive Jap Cars
Nissan Skyliner's&Toyota supra's and anything else that Comes 2.5/3.0 with turbos...
granted they are quick cars but they lack character. :wink:
usually when I roll up beside one of them at a set of lights in my T/A
they get very shy............ fear of the unknown..
most would have never seen a T/A before....
and the sound of the V8 seems to intimidate them hahaha...
