My new project, 1977 Trans Am 400.
« on: September 04, 2009, 12:07:01 AM »
Hello all,

This is my first posting of my daily driver/project car, a 1977 Trans Am with the 400 and TH350. It's a hardtop and fairly decent for the $3000 I paid for it. It DOES need some work, however, which is why I'm posting it in the Restoration section. Have a look!

Here's some more showing the dashcap install. Thanks, Hitman for providing such detailed instruction on the removal process.

New tires to replace the worn out ones. Cooper CObra Radial GTs.

Some more resources to help in my journey... (Thanks again, Hitman)

Well that's it for now. I'm working on finding a place that will weld in my new floorpans here in Avondale, AZ and then I can start to reassemble the interior. Thanks for looking.

Yeah, Looks like you did good. Those wheels look a lot like snowflakes.

Nice job on the dash install. I have a car that will probably get one of those.

Looks like it's coming along nicely.  You've inspired me to work on my ride this weekend.  Where did you get your dash cap at?

Nice car .... I think that's an 82' steering wheel?  Air shocks in the back?

Like someone else said, a steal for $3K.

A darn fine starting point! Keep the pics coming.

P.S. Floorpans are pretty easy and a good learning tool. Use the $ to buy a MIG setup and DUIT!

Hey thanks everybody for checking out here's some answers:

zman, the dashcap is from YearOne. Check it out here: http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?cat=4

jphillips3333, yeah, the wheel's from an '82. Dunno why, but considering the butt-in-the-air stance, the Appliance mags, and the window louvers, I think it was "retro" when it was first installed (probably the mid-eighties). I'm planning on finding a formula wheel to go with. The shock aren't the reason the rear's so high; it's got those helper bars on the leaf springs.

BusDriver, my friend graduated with a welding certificate, so maybe he can help me out. I don't know how to weld and always assumed it was really difficult, but I'll look into doing here.

Don't feel bad - I'm 40+ and can't weld.  I haven't had the need but probably should consider a community college welding course or something that introduces me to the process.

I was thinking the same, but I'm already going to school at UTI full-time and I don't have the hours to spare.
