Title: 1968 Firebird 400 4-Speed $7500
Post by: Hitman on October 11, 2008, 04:08:53 PM
Here is a 1968 Firebird 400 4-Speed for sale.  It is a nice car that is a perfect candidate for a restoration.  The car runs and drives great and is mechanically sound.  It just needs a cosmetic restoration. It has the Ram Air Pontiac 400 with the Saginaw 4-speed transmission (Non-Matching numbers). There is some small rust issues on the doors and quarters, but nothing too major.  The interior needs redone, but it is all there.  Car is located here in Ohio.  PM me to ask any questions.

Trust me.... I am trying to gather the money to get it myself.  Maybe I should start a "fund" for me to get my car.

If you get it are you going to paint it black to match the rest of the flock?

Hitman-

That would be the perfect addition to your collection.

My '73 has a 1968 400 and a Saginaw 4-speed.  I didn't realize that was an original factory setup.  I thought someone had pieced it together for my car.  Do you know anymore about that drivetrain combo and the cars it came in?

Thanks,
Tom

Yes, I would paint it black to match the rest of my birds.  As far as the drivetrain.  The 400 Motor came from a Bonneville and the 4-speed saginaw came from a 69 Bird.  If I can sell that 89 Bandit II I have then yes, this 68 is going in my garage.

Well, it has been two weeks and they guy selling the car NEVER calls me back.  I have called and talked to his wife about 12 times over the past two weeks and talking, and calling, and talking more, but her husband has YET to call me back to sell me the car.  The last time I talked to her was on Wednesday and she told me "He will give you a call this weekend".  Well, here it is Sunday Night and the guy STILL has never bothered to call me.  So, at this point in time, if he ever does call me back, I will tell him to take his car and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.  I am sick of calling him to try and buy the car.

I don't know if the car is still for sale, he never calls me back.  Here is the story I am getting.  When we first saw the car for sale, it had no price.  When we talked with the guy, he said he wanted $20,000 for the car.  Well, after talking with him and such, he said he wanted to get $12,000 for the car.  When a friend went to look at the car in person and he described it to me over the phone, I told him that it was only like a $6,000 car because of the work needed to it.  Well, he got the car professionally appraised and it was right where I figured it would be which is way less (50% less) than his $12,000 asking price.  His wife said that they would not take anything less than the appraisal value.  So, I was prepared to give them what the car was appraised for because that is what his wife said.  They said they needed to sell the car and have it gone.  I tried and tried to buy the car, but the guy never would call me back.  I talked to his wife a dozen times and she always said, "Well, give him a call tonight"... blah, blah, blah.  Then, when I talked with her on Wednesday, she said "He will call you this weekend".  Well, this weekend came and went with no phone calls from him.  Well, I guess the guy still wants to try and get $12,000 for the car (because in his magical world he thinks it is worth that).  Since the guy never calls me back, he can keep his damn car and try to sell it himself.  He will be waiting a long time to get his asking price for the car.  And with the way the ecomony is going, I think he will be stuck with it for a while.  Serves him right for not returning my phone calls.

selling a car is really tough now. i've been trying to sell my 70 Chevelle SS454 for a year now, and i've had either people that are "low ballers", or people never show up when they say they are coming to look at the car.
in the condition the car is in, i should be asking $45 - $50,000 for it, but i'm only asking a lousy $35,000. which is quite low for that car in the condition it is in. i think it is because the economy is terrible, and people always want to get something for nothing.   :-\

helter if i had 35 grand, i would be talking to you. i think the car prices shot up too high too fast no special thanks to them tv auction houses!!!!!!!! and on top of that, the economy sucks i have never been so broke since i started working when i was 13 to put it plain and simple and then i had a press route but atleast the whole whopping $650 a month i earned was all mine for whatever i wanted to do with it. now i dont even have that a month to spare wtf??? lol oh well. i believe this is why i cannot sell my y88 for crap either. its too good to give away but at the same time, i need money majorly and have nothing else to sell.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't want to talk to that women again either Hitman.  I remember it took nearly an hour for us just to get out of there as we heard about her husbands uncles kids having their gall bladder removed, or his wife's sisters new plastic surgery, or about their families other ailments IN DETAIL.  :o :o :o LOL  I think she must have kept you on the phone at least for an hour with each call.  What a waste of time.  Sorry to hear the deal hinges on a phone call.  I wouldn't call him either in fear you may have to talk to her AGAIN.   ;D

Hammer

Sounds like my mother-in-law.

Brett,

If you are really looking for a first gen firebird I got one you may like. Its A 69 PHS documented 400 4 speed car w/posi, console, power discs, ps, and ac. Have the original block, (but its not in the car), car is running and driving with a rebuilt 400 shortblock and original top end. Its very solid with excellent floors, lower quarters, etc. Its in line for paint, but will part with it as is or repainted.

Rick,

Just a hunch but I would bet the white green 69 you looked at was a green green car that was painted white as a way to make it sell better. Any ways, I would take $8000 for the 69 as it is now, before it gets painted. I have more pics of it posted on this link http://www.cor-vette.com/1969_firebird%204%20speed.htm (http://www.cor-vette.com/1969_firebird%204%20speed.htm) its a nice straigt solid good driving car that could be an easy project needing mainly paint and carpet (I took out the carpet to inspect floors) and Brett, I think I have a few solid rolling 68 project birds...

Dennis,

Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but could you give me the 411 on some of your roller '68 birds? Would you be interested in a VERY solid '79 Trans Am all original for a trade perhaps??? Let me know.

PM and I will send you an e-mail. Sorry for the intrusion guys!

Dave

I am always open to trading, or as my wife says "swapping chickens". Here is one of my 68 rollers that is currently in my parts field. It was originally an autumn bronze 350 4 speed car.
