Adding 1970-81 INSTRUMENT PANEL GRAB HANDLE
« on: September 18, 2018, 04:02:07 PM »
I want to change my interior from a  standard to a custom.
Can I just add a 1970-81 INSTRUMENT PANEL GRAB HANDLE to a standard dash?  If so how?
Thx

They are all equipped, you just need to make the hole in the vinyl cover. Depending on how supple yours is you may be able to make out the holes under the skin from the front, unless they need to be opened up more. If you look at the grab handle you'll see how it pushes through and then screws sideways into plastic tabs that are part of the dash structure already. The u-nuts and screws will possibly need to be supplied although typically they were on all during assembly.

You can see one screw on the right, the other tab is just on the left of the picture.

Same car again, there's a slot in the plastic each side of the tabs where the handle pushes through and secures.

Thank you for the info!  I was thinking that they all were ready to accept but did not know.  I would hate to tear up a perfectly good dash and find out otherwise.
Wonder if I can find and access from the rear?  If I re.ovevthe glove box?

Thx

Yes, you'll need to remove the glovebox liner, and removing the arm to let door open fully probably helps access also.
