No they're not the repops, these are metal not plastic. I don't think they're overpriced - there's a USED set of originals for sale at fbodywarehouse for $175.

They look like the repros to me as well. Here is a few photos of an original on the left and the repro on the right.....

I can also still get the original ones for $99 for the pair.

Where can you get a pair of originals for $99? I looked up in Performance Years Firebird catalog and they have 76 - 78 rear pillar bird emblem - part # GFR32 GM for $109 each and it looks like the one on the right not the one on the left. That's what I have.

the ebay auction are gm repros for sure.   the ones pictured on the left are the real originals,  the ones on the right are the ones gm made available for purchase later on.  i think this is a case of what brett described awhile ago on a thread about "true" nos items vs repro nos items.  yes the ones on ebay are gm parts,  but they are clearly NOT the originals pictured on the left in the above pics.

also, repros are not plastic, they are metal.  but most improtant of all, the prices in the big company catalouges are way overpriced... they gotta make a profit on each part they sell.  like brett said, he can get originals for $99/pair!  & $175 for a used set of emblems is not what you can base realistic prices on?  heck, i got a set of these & i could ask $250... doesn't mean one can base their price on that exagerated price.

& while gm stuff does seem to be kind of pricey lately,  these can be ordered direct from gmpartsdirect.com  for about $80 each,  that just shows how much the big guys mark them up.

may John Witzke could post a pic of what is on his car.  that might help.

I have a firebird trunk emblem I know is OEM , I took it from a bird in the very early 80's from a junkyard.
but everyone told me it was a repro.

just like the shifter button there is 2 or 3 red OE styles.

Actually in Performance Years, part number GFR32 is $57 each for the repro, or $114 for the pair.

Well I'm going to change the auction to a more realistic price. I didn't know GM had reproduced them and like I said I was told the repros were plastic. I never said I was the brightest light bulb in the box.  ::)

hey i could use some sharpening myself compared to some of the other tools in the shed.  ya learn something new everyday!    ;)

FWIW,  i had the original ones brett shows on my 78 as well,  but for the recent resto i did i used the repro gms,  i found some for a great deal & didnt know then they werent 100% correct at the time, they looked so nice & shiny new.  my car is not a show car,  just a nice "resto mod" low mile car,  for that the repros are fine.
