Welcome to the forum and I have your car's sister.  Also have an 1980 SE and am the original owner.  Perhaps we'll be sharing some ideas.

Sweet! Who knows, our cars could've both been built at the same plant and sat in the lot at the same time before being shipped.  ;D

It looked like that up until the resto started. Right now it's in a million pieces but it's gonna be a show stopper when done!

Cool idea.  My vin ends with 4044.  How close is yours?  It would be interesting to know.

Mine ends with 0351. I'm guessing that would put it in the first part of the production year.

Looks sweet especially for a Michigan car. They normally dont survive that well here!

I've looked at so many engine bays on theis site.  It is way cool to see one that is identical to mine.  You have said you have taken her appart.  Do you have any engine bay pics with the engine out?  I don't know if I'll get that far this summer for I'm looking at redoing the interior first (that is getting out all the rust, putting in new pans, cleaning up and redyeing all the interior plactic parts etc.) Then lifting her up and continue with the cleaning of the underside.  If you are able some pics of this area would be appreciated, esp. under the middle part of the car (passenger compartment).  I think you have alot less rust and would like to see this area as I start my clean up.  If you are able to post any of these requested pictures, it would greatly be appreciated.  The only differences I can see between our two cars from the pics is that you have the gold bezzel around our shifter, your rims look like 15x8 and mine are 15x7, and perhaps I'm wrong but mine has the defrosting back window and yours looks like it doesn't.  Didn't see the switch for it on your dash.  Am I correct about your back window?

That's what I thought! I've heard horror stories about cars up north and the salt on the roads. I was very surprised of the condition she kept it in.

Yes and yes. I have tons of pics of every angle for my car that I need to sort thru. I took a lot because I wanted to put things back exactly like they came out. I don't have a photographic memory and I knew it would be a while before my car would be finished which is probably why I have a thousand of pics of everything.

This is my first project also so I've been doing the same thing.  Loads of pics at different angles before I start on anything.  For each section I also have been baging bolts and screws, then labling the bags so I'll hopefully be able to get them back to where they started from.   The last thing I want is a bucket of bolts, screws and a ton of guess work.

Wow...what a great base to start with! I'm still welding and patching my 79. Good luck with the resto. I'm sure this one will end up sweet!
