Conversion to 3.8 turbo
« on: January 18, 2018, 08:17:17 PM »
My red 89 TA currently has the 305 it originally came with from the factory.  A friend has an 84 Buick 3.8 turbo engine and transmission along with the wiring harness.
I’ve removed and installed several engines in the past and I’m in the process of installing a BBC in an A Body now.
How much of job is this conversion and will it be worth the time, effort and cost?

It may not even have enough in common to be a straight forward swap with the V6 base models. Will it be worth the time, effort and cost? Most would say not at all, but maybe you really want a turbo V6 bird. I can imagine a lot more straight forward slapping a turbo on the 305, or a 350 straight in swap, minus the turbo for a lot more torque and go, and part simply bolt on and work as they should.

Your reply makes good sense. A 350 sbc with a 400 crank makes a much easier upgrade.
I’ll stick with what I’m familiar with and go from there.
