Urethane bumpers... *thumbsdown*
« on: July 22, 2008, 09:06:55 PM »
If theres one job on a T/A that I absolutely hate, it's sanding the urethane bumpers... Two days worth of sanding by hand will leave your arms like jello.

Not to mention repairing a crack (Must have hit something) and spiderwebbing that formed in it from the previous owner because of the lack of flex additive used.. I had to sand it ALL off.

Before:

Now

Soon it will be ready to put on the car.  8) 8) Drivers door need some fine tune tweaking (it doesn't line up very good at the front... I missed that when I lined it all up) and fenders/hood are just sitting on the car so I don't have to move them around every day. And yes, the cowl hood will be GONE next year. I don't feel like messing with the shaker woes of not fitting with a high rise intake/holley. So to get the car done for this year I wetsanded the crap out of the cowl hood I got with the car back in '03, primed, blocked some more, filled, primed agian and painted the cowl hood. I'll probably use it for the track, too, since it weighs much less than the steel hood.

Wow...that looks really good Joe. I didn't realize you were swapping the nose on the '76.

I see Goldy still in the background...no sell?

Jeff, yeah it's getting there. I should have the heat extractors, marker lights, bumpers and mirrors all ready for paint tomorrow. Then I'll be able to finish the interior and hopefully get it ready to drive by Aug. 16th.

As far as the '77, I got a few bites but nobody serious about buying it. I never proceeded to try and sell it :) No harm I suppose ;)

If you can't sell em, might as well give 'em some attitude... ;) As soon as the '76 is complete, I'm going to start installing the following goodies on the gold T/A to make it a more "fun" daily driver. Not shown are what I'm currently waiting on from Summit... Doug's  longtube headers, plus a complete 2.5" header back w/ x-pipe Pypes Violator exhaust system. They're both on backorder :(

I've polished my fair share of aluminum...

Two sets of WS6 snowflakes, and a set of GTA wheels... I'm done with that, too! :P

Well.. I primed the bumper covers and a few small interior parts yesterday, blocked them this morning, reprimed (couple little flaws) and shot the base/clear on the stuff today. I'm INCREDIBLY happy with how the bumpers came out, considering how they looked previously.

Heres a few pics in my ghetto paintbooth. :P

All mounted and almost fully lined up. Few problems here and there, sorting them out slowly. Mounting the 79-81 spoilers on a 70-73 front end is no picnic. I wish I had of went the factory route, but I already have them and not many earlier parts in good shape. I had to cut a big section out of the lower steel valence, but that's OK I only paid $40 for it anyway. As I'm sure most of you agree, I was saving my opinion on the hood until I saw it fully mounted and how it looked with the front end. Yuck just about sums it up, it fits TERRIBLE across the front.  :-X Good thing the hood will generally always be open at shows.  Next year the hood in the background of the pics (Shaker hood) will be installed, as that's what every T/A needs to keep!

Fitting the valence/lower air dam:

I also realize the red loom behind the grilles is a bad idea, and I'm changing it back to black for that section because if the light hits it right it looks TERRIBLE behind the grilles.

I only WISH that my lower valence was steel... ::) ::) ::)  The plastic stuff GM used got brittle from age and is breaking up around the front license plate area.  >:(

The shot of the rear bumper in fresh paint...is that ribbed strip on the underside where it rivets to the actual steel original, haven't seen one and certainly not on mine.

That's original. It isn't rivets, though, they're 7/16" or 1/2" bolts I believe.
