5k seems like a deal if it is as explained, which you will not know till you get there.  there is a 71 formula 400 for sale in cincy that is a one owner(professional mechanic), and it is stock original in great shape but 17K.

are you going to go in depth like you did with your 79?

if the paint is nice I will keep it as is for now.  but the front end will come back off to restore the engine bay, replace all the bushings, check the brake and gas lines, paint the engine.

he called last night and told me about a few more little things worng with it.  and lowered the price to 4500.

he told me it runs and drives good.   Lori told me last night to sell the 68 and she would drive the 73 (she loves the look of it)

Squirrel , I'll be down for the rallys soon. I want them for this bird now.

LadyBird , we'll have to see how work and winter plays out for me.

BS on selling the gen 1 bird.  You'll regret it.  $4,500 for that car is not a bad deal as long as the body is pretty sound.

the louvers on the true ram air hood were glassed in (but could still see them)
you could see all the sand marks in the hole car (it was bad) looked like 80 grit.
the rear left side frame rail had a 3 finger hole in it buy the spring cup.
the lower quarters were patched over
the trunk drops were cut off ( gone )
the dash corners were filled with filler.
the right side fender was a hard to find one year 71 (?) fender with the louvers filled in ( and the wide bar brace wouldnt work on it.)
listed as a non a/c car , but it was a a/c car with no a/c
was not #'s maching 74 400 ( but ran very good)
was listed as no rot in the floor, (then why was there a ton of silicone all over it?)
the lower right front quarter had a rust blister
but I did buy the other ram air hood he had for 80.00, it needs a little glass work
it was truly a wasted 5 hr trip. I did offer him 2500.00 for it , but said no.

i suppose the fact their was a tractor in the yard should have signafied a different type of solid? lol sorry to hear it was a junker doug. they are all climbing in price. 70-73's are by no means cheap anymore...one of them "it pays to play" situations.
Too many birds, not enough food.

Jeez, I guess the guy who sold me my car was right- he said most times you go way out of your way to look at a car thats is not exactly what is advertised. Mine was not cheap- (17500) the body is pretty cherry, but I am having issues with it. (Themostat, cooling issues, fuel tank is full of DIRT- doing that tomorrow) I probably overpayed but the fact is that you cant find them near you. Mine was about 50 miles away and I figured I might not see another one in the near future, so I bought it. Thats too bad, I was hoping to have a "twin" on the site.....
