window trouble
« on: September 01, 2011, 06:50:55 PM »
Don't know if this is the right area for this but is there a difference in door windows through the years? My driver side window leans in to far in the front and won't let the door shut right with out pushing it out. I know having the door panels in can help but it takes some pressure to push it out in order to close the door with the window up. Also are 70-81 trans am and camaro widows the same? Are there different window tracks for power and manual windows?
I've spent awhile trying every possible adjustment to get the window to sit right but it won't the passenger side fits fine. The driver side window was broke out when I got the car I pulled a window out of a 76 camaro thinking they were the same the camaro had manual windows.

no

yes

Are there different window tracks for power and manual windows?

Tracks are the same...only the scissor mechanism is different

Sounds like you need to adjust the glass further...I have a very easy to use guide if you'd like it.

The "fuzzie" guides at top of door don't really control window adjustment, nor do the door panels but having them in place will help in final adjustment checks

Renovations answered already, but I wrote this, so here it is: The Camaro and Firebird glass is the same. I think the tracks are the same for manual and power windows. Only the regulators are different. But I think that wouldn't be your issue anyway, since it looks like you only replaced the window and are using the same tracks you already had in the car. I'd think there must be an adjustment there. Do you have a copy of the Fisher Body manual that shows all the adjustments? Otherwise, maybe one of the tracks is bent? It shouldn't make a difference whether the door panel is on or not.

Don't feel bad, I'm in the same boat. When the PO had the car stripped down to the shell and painted, he removed all of the window mechanisms and glass. One window goes too far out when rolling up and the other too far in. It gives me a reason to keep it in the garage when the weather is less thandesireable. It's on my to-do list as well....

Wow Renovations you mean there is an adjustment guide for these window's that would help out a lot that would at least give me some kinda starting point. It's a T-Top car if that makes any difference. Now I just have to figure out why the new T-Top seal leak. :) Thanks guys

I would love a copy of the guide as well.

I think the door cards/panels help eliminate the slop wobble, if that's a good description. When they are not there it seems the window can lean in a bit more making adjustment that much more complicated. Almost wonder if anyone has cut holes into bad/old door panels to temporarily install during window adjustment.
