I spotted this on eBay:

Is the outside (wide) aluminum trim supposed to be painted?

For Special Edition Trans Ams with the Hurst T-tops, yes, they are supposed to be black like this:

For Non-Special Edition Trans Ams, they are supposed to be silver like this:

Since we are talking t-tops, are gold trimmed t-tops more rare and valuable than the silver ones?

Do you mean Gold Tinted and Mirror Tinted T-tops? The Gold tinted T-tops were only on Y88 Gold Special Edtion cars in 1978. The mirrored (or silver) T-tops were on all 10th Anniversaries, plus all of the 1980 and 1981 Pace Cars (I think). So There were more mirrored (silver) t-tops out there than the gold ones.

The ones with the gold trim along the edge. This is on the Y-88 that I am selling, but I have an extra set of gold trimmed ones just like this and I am wondering what they are worth.

The gold trim along the outside is something not original. It is the tint that makes them special. They were either silver or black for the frames.

what about cars & concepts t- tops any body ever seen them i have them on a 77 t/a 4-speed

No, it is not paint , it is actually an anodized finish. Even the black and silver was not paint, it was anodized. And yes, I have seen cars and concept t-tops on a 77 Trans Am. In fact, one of the ones I am doing now had cars and concepts and we took them out and put a Hurst roof back on.
