tire size question
« on: October 28, 2013, 10:14:03 PM »
Would rear tire size 235x60x15 be a bit lower gear ratio than 225x70x15 ? Anything noticeably ? Thanks!

A 235/60 is a lot shorter tire than a 225/70. In a 60 series tire you need to be using a 255/60 to be close to the height of a 225/70. A lot of guys have used and do use 245/60's, but they are too short for my taste.

Yes.  235/60-15 diameter = 26.1"  &  225/70-15 diameter = 27.4
Just how much lower?   There's an app for that, somewhere.

Yes, if you put the shorter 235-60's on the rear, you will notice better acceleration compared to the original size, as if you had switched to a lower rear end ratio. I've swapped back and forth before and noticed a definite difference. Hard to say how much, but the shorter tire does improve acceleration, which feels better, especially if you only have a 2.41 or 2.56 ratio to start with.
