1976 Trans AM restoration can 78 body shell used?
« on: September 15, 2014, 10:36:54 PM »
Can a 1978 firebird formula shell be use to restore a 1976 Trans am I?    I need a good back half of a 76 trans am.  I don't know enough about the diffrences in 2nd generation bodies from year to year to know if they can be interchanged as far as the body goes?    Any help on this would be great.

The opening in the tail panel for the fuel filler neck is wider on the 78.

yes, the opening for the filler neck is oval (same as the 79 used), the 74-77 style is rectangular.

Next differences are the hole for the wiper motor. 78 style is a round hole (same as 79 and up), and the -77 is oval.
