Topic: For Sale 1980 Indy Pace Car used in the Indy 500 as The Caution Car.$10,000.00

      1980 Indy Pace Car 92,000 miles,Asking $10,000.00 but will consider any reasonable offers...
     I  found out earlier this year that it was Used as the Caution Car during the actual race driven by Don Bailey. The car is PHS documented with a huge amount of records and service history. Original engine with 92,000 miles on it could probably drive anywere.New Exhaust,New Subframe connectors,New shocks,New Body Mount Bushings, Newer rear springs,Full Tune up. The Original Carb needs adjusting.Still has Original never used Spare tire  and jack in the trunk with the original T-Top Bags,Also has the jacket that came with it.The Passenger rocker panel has had some temporary work done,BUT I have a set of NEW Rocker Panels from Year One that come with it.The Floor panels were replaced by the previous owner so those are good.Also have an extra Core support that comes with it. Over all it looks good, I removed a few decals that were falling off like the pin stripes and the lettering under the doors.It does have a few chips in the paint and the nose cone has the really thin hairline cracking in it,but its hard to see.Heater works but AC dont blow cold.Interior is Nice. Windshield has a crack but it dont leak.Dashboard looks great.Tires only have 100 miles on them if that... For more info or pics email me through here.

     Im not sure of the Blue Book but I think thats close. and with its History it might be worth more maybe.Wanted to list it on here first so it might go to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do.
The Car needs some minor work but over all is in good condition

 Kev has the vin numbers from the cars used during the race and as festival cars.He can also put you in touch with The  person to have it authenticated in writing. It costs $350.00 to have it Authenticated. If I still own it when I get my taxes back I'll have it authenticated myself. Cant afford it right now with Christmas and all.

Pontiac didn't keep any records that I know of for the 1980 Pace Car that were used at Indy.
Plus their record keeping was little to nothing when it came to documentation.

No, I did not get it from GM, I bought the list from the person who was responsible for prepping
and de-prepping the Pace Cars and worked at Indy for 20+ years.  He has all the VIN lists for all the Pace
Cars, Festival Cars and Service Vehicles for all years that were used at Indy.

great find, how did you locate this gent and is there a similar gent at daytona?   (not trying to be negative w/questions as i dont have a PC but this is a pretty big discovery and people should/will be curious as to how it came about 30 yrs later)

He sells on E-Bay.  Don't remember his screenname off the top of my head at the moment.

Is there a similar gent at daytona?

Of the research I have done on the 80 PC, Daytona did not keep any information.  Daytona
did not have the record keeping practices like Indy did.  However, the 80 PC did Pace the
Daytona 500 and all the major NASCAR Races and the VIN's are on my list that were used
at those/some races, but not all.

Yes indeed, it did exist.  Since the 80 PC was used at Indy, that is why the list was still out
there, he saw the history behind it and kept.  The 1981 TTA Daytona Pace Car on the
other hand, there is no info that I have found with the VIN's on what was used.

Indy has an archive department for photo's that anybody can visit and buy photos if that
is what they want.  They have photo's of the very first race to present and there are
thousands of photos per year to search through.  But for Daytona they have a third
party company that handles it and they are not very organized.  I think I bought maybe
3-4 pictures from Daytona and that is all they could dig up and you had to pay them to
search through the archives.

Yes his name is Howard. I've been told he's very Private, So I wouldnt  give out his info unless I had a serious offer, then I would contact him.Im willing to pay for it out of pocket if it will sell the car.
 Do you guys think I have it priced fair? Should I lower it a bit? Im not looking to get rich off of it, just give it a good home to someone that appreciates it...
