Ya know seriously I almost passed up a good deal on my ta because the guy really didn't know anything about the car.  The only reason he owned it was that his neighbor had it and he liked it so he bought it.  He hardly ever drove it either.  I thought he was trying to pull a fast one on me but he turned out to be very honest.

This other guy with the 403 4sp car on the other hand.....I think he's just nuts.  I too thought that it was interesting when he stated the car being so reliable but the tranny was in his bedroom.  I could just emagine what his room would look like too.  No way in hell would I go walking into someone's home to pull out a major part out of someone's bedroom.  I can't emagine what he's done to the tranny in his bedroom.  Maybe he got mixed up on a bad batch of X-mas crack and he was talking about the 2 legged tranny in his bedroom????

i wanna know what made him carrry the thing all the way into his bedroom.

His mommy told him to get it off the top of the tv. It was interfering with the reception.

Yeah I think he's playing possum, begging for anyone to just come and look at the thing.  He'd probably take $500 for it but because he seems so shady on the way he answers questions no one wants to take the chance.

I got this e-mail today..

This car was apparently a 301 when new. This was not known to me until now. All I know is that it does in fac have a 403 and was stick shift. I am sorry for wasting your time. Have a nice day.

Tim

I e-mailed him back with.

ok its a 301 car that's fine.  but I am trying to tell you your 4 speed will not bolt to a 403 olds motor.  in all of GM's history they never had a 403 olds 4 speed motor. the crank shafts were not bored for a pilot barring. the end of the input shaft sticks into the crank where a barring is pressed in. old 403 never did it.

No, they didn't come from the factory with the crank machined for the pilot bushing and input shaft. But there are ways around that. A couple of companies make (or did) an adapter bushing that requires the input shaft be cut a little. Or you can swap in a 350 crank which would be otherwise identical.

Perhaps the guy before him did just that. maybe he knew more what he was doing then this new owner of the car.  idk either way it sounds fishy
