that's a LOT of horses for a daily driver.  Your going to get like 2 miles to the gallon.

To look at that kind of horsepower your looking at I'd guess around 15 grand, 4K being just for the blower/super charger. Custom parts, and a very smart builder. That isn't something that is very common to see on pump gas now a days either. Shoot for the 500-600hp mark, isn't much reason to go over that with all the traffic laws anyways :) If you do go the 800+ route, I agree with Lomileta, Full Roll Cage, or broken car. I'd put a roll cage with 600hp regardless. New drive shaft, a new rear-end (12 bolt, Ford 9", or a Dana 60) Tranny rebuild, no stock one will like a motor like that.

If you want that kind of power you are definitly going to need a diffrent block, the 400 block after 74 or 75 is a time bomb. They just had a article in the new high performance pontiac magizine about this. If you are serious about that kind of horse power then I would invest in a new block from butler performance. Good luck.

LOL you want a 900hp daily driver??? with the price of gas today man you must be rich. Pypes makes a complete mandrel bent exhaust sytem for the 2nd gen's witht he Violator mufflers its pretty loud but not as loud as cut-outs or open headers. Look at comp cams Xtreme Energy line of cams. But i would keep the Q-jet. just a little more economic IMO.

Thanks for the pics of the Dougs headers.

By looking at the headers in relation to the oil pan, it looks like they hang down quite a ways.

How much lower than the oil pan do they really sit?

I'm in need of headers myself, for my 78, but don't want to kill my ground clearance.

I had been looking for a good shorty header, but they are hard to find, and I do like the performance advantage of the long ones like Dougs.

thanks again,

Keith

I agree that a Poncho 400 is not great to build to 900HP, not even a Chev 400 is good for that without problems. You would need a big block for sure. 400HP is still very nice and not too hard to get. Good luck
