Steering column swap
« on: June 14, 2009, 03:54:21 PM »
I have a 78 T/A that I am restoring. I just bought a 80 T/A for parts. The 80 has tilt steering, so will it fit the 78 (both are automatic)? And I would like to put the pulse wipers and fuse box from the 80 into the 78 will they also work?
Thanks

The 80 column should bolt right in to the 78. But, the headlight dimmer is on the floor of your 78, and it is on the column on the 80, so you'll have to run some wires to it. There is also a difference in the neutral/safety wiring in 80. Your 78 has a neutral/safety/back-up light switch on the column. The 80 doesn't. It just has a back-up light switch. So, I believe you will be able to mount your 78 switch on the 80 column.

The pulse wipers should work, but you'll have to get all the wiring off the 80 for the pulse motor and pulse switch to swap it all into your 78.
