Mate that box of PG is nearly 2 years old now!!!

You need to come over and get some more parts.

Are you near London? I have a friend that can sort that out straight away. Lemme know and I can get you in contact with him. He is very good at what he does and is reasonable as well. Cheers!
-
Whoa, alll the power to ya, buddy. You have my respect for trying to save this one.
-
You could always strip the roof and put it on your car.
-
Now remember English. You're working on a Yank Tank here...........You need a GLASS of tea (and, by law, it must be ICED), or a CUP of coffee........;D

Notice in pic 4 the COMPOLSORY cup of TEA !! its the one thing keeping me sane.
-
jeese you always wanted a T-top car it looks like your going to have to work for it. good luck with this venture it should be a fun one.
-
All I can say Steve is OUCH :o
-
I've been doing some calculations, and I've figured that that cup of tea needs to be served in an oil drum, and the sponge needs to be the size of a king sized matress ;D
Gunner
-
Gunner its all good mate, i have help from ........ a good friend. ;)

-
get a big tub of jam m8, that will sort it!!
and i told you no such thing you cheeky monkey!!
LOL , id better explain this one for our American friends,
Jam = Fibreglass paste, grp, it comes pre mixed and looks like " preserve " hence the nickname
and secondly it was only with the HELP ( there i said it lol ) of Steve ( MECHANICAL ANIMAL ) that i was able to get this car ( shell ) .
He thought i was going to break it for parts ( the roof etc ) but what he didnt realise is that i hate to see these cars being destroyed and so decided to save it in my own special way. After all , all i can do is improve it ?
Thanks Steve , your ok for a " Northener " LOL
-
the tea aint workin mate..... and your welcome,
your not bad for a "southerner"
-
Ok ive been making progress and once again , ive decided to do things a little differently.
Ive got a complete 4th gen leather interior, including dash from Mechanical Animal,
So it would be rude not to use it.
Its just mocked up in this pic, but today i have been mounting it properly.
-
Steve Here is a link where a guy did that to his car. Might give you some ideas on how he did his swap!!
www.extremefirebird.com
He hasn't updated the site for awhile but there is some good stuff on there!!!
-
Ive got a complete 4th gen leather interior...
Looks good mate....at least it's not a BMW interior....can you imagine someone doing that?? :o
( ;) ;D ;) )
-
Looks good see I told you . Do what you want to
-
Thanks guys, Bmw interior, its been done mate to great effect LOL ;)
Nexus illhave a look thanks mate, RRR76TA , all is forgiven on the mini's. ;D
-
Nexus, that was really interesting mate, thankyou.
Ive mounted my dash in a different way than what he did, but it was really interesting to see how he got round some of the problems that i faced.
Mines pretty much mounted now, i wanted to keep the 2nd gen steering coloumn and the console.
All i can say is he must have spent a fair few $$$$$, mine is more like "cents" ....
-
Wow English.... :o
I`d have broke that for parts....
And there was me fussin over a little surface rust on the cowl :-X
Well, a bit more than surface rust but....nowt a mig and grinder can`t fix...
Oh...and wots wrong with Northerner`s ? ;)
-
Nowt wrong with Northern folk ! LOL its just a joke between me and Mechanical Animal.
It was sold to me as a breaker, but i love a challenge and well, my other car was worse!
-
Ok ive been making progress and once again , ive decided to do things a little differently.
Ive got a complete 4th gen leather interior, including dash from Mechanical Animal,
So it would be rude not to use it.
it would indeed...VERY RUDE!
Its just mocked up in this pic, but today i have been mounting it properly.
-
Aye, looks like a challenge to me alright....think a few shares in Tetley`s are in on the books ;D
Good luck with it :)
-
Ok a little more Progress.....
-
looking good steve, was suprised to see how much progress you made, was good to see you saturday, enjoyed myself...even the ride in the fiesta was "entertaining" lol.
hope the mirrors were ok for you and the keyring!
when you coming back to yorkshire?
-
Thanks Guys ! its getting there, but so much to do.
Mechanical Animal, thanks for the pressies, much much appreciated !!
Yorkshire again..... well see LOL.
-
you love it up here... where else can you go to sleep in a room full of die cast??
as long as they're still all there next day!!
-
Its not the die cast im after!
where else am i gonna get the parts to finish the build?
only kidding, its been a great help.
-
you only want me for my parts! lol, you got much more done or has weather delayed progress?
-
At least im honest, or is it transparent? LOL
I stripped the rear axle in between showers, i dont think some of those bolts have been undone since 79 !!
Bloomin rain.
-
honest? lol
-
Im as honest as the day is long!
Anyway, hows your car coming on? Do you need a bit of Cockney help?
-
maybe m8.. you headin north?
-
Not yet, but if things carry on the way they are.....
-
Well ive been trying to make progress, i decided that i wanted to keep the 2nd gen clocks, but mount them into the 4th gen dash.
Its not finished yet but heres where im at so far, the second gen Binnacle is mounted into the 4th gen clock surround......
theres a long way to go !
-
That looks pretty slick!
-
Thanks Bob, it should look subtle ( maybe even factory ? ) by the time ive finished, im hoping that it will be something that people just dont notice at first look.
-
you will def be winning the most modified trans am award i cant wait to see this thing done. keep posting photos please.
-
Looks good Sir
-
Thanks again, i will do.
-
Great work (as usual) on the gauge pod...but the pink plaid seat covers gotta' go :o ;) :D
-
I like what your doin sir english!
Will be following this one :)
-
Pretty original. Ill be watching. You must have some fabrication experience.
-
An I was thinking that your tea was to strong. Look what it has done to the cowl and around the window! Dude my hat is off to ya for saving that one. I couldn't have done it.
-
Once again thankyou, it makes every scraped knuckle and evry swear word worth it.
Jeff, theres no chance of Pink, maybe when im older and my daughter learns to drive, ( she wants a Pink car and guess who's gotta paint it ! ).
-
Well today i got the Rear end together, the body shell is an 80, but as it came as a bare shell and i didnt have the correct rear bumper and lights for this year , but i did have some from a 76, it only seemed logical to swap the rear ends.
I didnt replace the whole rear panel, just fabricated the rear light holders etc.......
Anyway sorry that the pic was taken at night, but id only just finished....
80 to 76 ( in my case ).
-
Lookin good my friend!!
I like what you did with the instraments!!!!
that was some great ingenuity!!!1
-
Amazing!
-
A little more...... ;) thanks again for the compliments, it is appreciated. :)
-
Wow, that looks great! The perfect melding of old and new! Can't wait to see more.
-
Well , ive been doing a bit more, my biggest problem is funding, nearly everything has to be fabricated from what i can find.
Mechanical Animal suggested that i make the rear seat back fold down like it does in the Third and Fourth gen cars, so with that in mind, this is what i did today.
Alot more work ahead, but you get the idea of it all....... ;)
-
Thanks Mike, the rear shelf panel will be extended to meet the rear seat and the whole area is going to recieve some strengthening, i cant believe how much Narrower the later seats are !
The Blue on the floor was me experimenting with different colours!!
-
I haven't seen your thread for a while till today you've certainly been blessed with expertise your project looks great, by the way I notice the sleeping bag in the back hope you're not in the dog house over the project, I've been kinda close myself here lately :)
-
Its looking great Steve.
-
Wow, I love the dash with the old gauges. Your car is going to be amazing!
-
Thanks Mike, the rear shelf panel will be extended to meet the rear seat and the whole area is going to recieve some strengthening, i cant believe how much Narrower the later seats are !
The Blue on the floor was me experimenting with different colours!!
You have lots of room to tub the rear end with those seats and not have to worry about seat fitmant issues
-
^^^^ Please dont give me ideas !!
Im a huge fan of pro street........ but that would cost me money and thats a no no, who knows when its finished i may find another shell.........
-
What if you used 2x4 tubing for the rear frame but welded them in an angular fasion to for the arch
-
Well i fabricated a frame to replace the rear panel that i cut out and then extended the rear shelf to meet the new rear seats....
Sorry about the pics, its been raining really heavilly the last couple of days.
-
you definately have some skills with making things. I can't wait to see what else you come up with for this car.
-
Well i fabricated a frame to replace the rear panel that i cut out and then extended the rear shelf to meet the new rear seats....
Sorry about the pics, its been raining really heavilly the last couple of days.
How about an interior shot of your work, ya' lazy cabbage? ;) :D :D ;D
-
^^^ Cabbage PMSL ( private joke )
What do you want to see? Im working outside and its been raining the last few days..........
-
I wanna' see a pic of the interior frame you built to surround your rear seat fold-down/opening?
We need to see what those British hands have been doing over there...take along an umbrella
-
Its all highly confidential, maybe you should get your passport sorted out and come and inspect it yourself !!
Its a simple box section frame that goes along the rear of the seat ( to help brace the seat back ) which is then tied to the floor and braced to the rear of the car, i need to put another brace across the bottom, but i need to get some more steel, i then extended the rear shelf with a nice thick steel plate.
The rear seats are bolted down to a custom made frame, so that they can be removed if needed and that allows the rear to tilt flat.
You can get hold of the frame and shake the whole car with it, i then covered the rear panel.
-
A little more, ;)
My trademark smaller rear window and flushed door handles...plus im " de swaging the whole car for a smoother look....
I havent finished these yet, but it will give you all a sneak preview, i wanted LED rear lights, so im fabricating my own, when theyre finished ill post a proper piccy.....
-
My friend you have mad metal working skills and other skills to. Keep up the good work!
-
As always, your work looks top notch mate :o
I'll even let those Chevy Rally rims pass ;) ;D
-
Tail lights look great! the cup of tea and polish seems to be working ;)
-
Those tail lights look great!
-
I love the rear tail lights!! Can we get a picture from the back?
-
Nice tails, lookin' forward to see them in.
-
Ill try and get them mounted, but they wont be lit up as im in the process of re wiring the whole car.
But thanks for the positive notes.
-
Steve, I just had a great idea!!!!
Instead of a hood bird, you should just get a decal of the Hoff on there in his leathers!!!
I'm sure you have several pics to choose from!!
-
PMSL if it wasnt so tragic i would !!
Maybe i could get a Magnetic Hoff pic for the hood, but what would i name the car?
FireDave? Daves Am? Macho Dave? lol.
-
I say it should be named Fire-Hoff
-
Well a few more pics and NO HOFF.
Heres the tailights " mocked in ", they are wired but not to the loom as i havent built the loom yet.
Yep the car is full of it, but im doing all the work in my back garden so its a 2nd shed!
More Tea and a childs cup which gave me an idea....
Not finished but.......
Mechanical Animal gave me a drivers door, which was fantastic as i didnt have one, but it needed a bit of work, not a problem.....
So while i was working on that my 2 youngest children were bugging me for something to do, so i thought id let them sand down the front nose cone..... that had a few suprises in it too !
Never a dull moment !
-
It`s always the case with old motor`s....
The more you dig, the more you find....::)
[attachment deleted by admin over 90 days old]
-
Do you plan on carrying on with the digging?
-
Well, now the spade is finally out, yeah I am. (so look elswhere for a parts-car ;) ).
Besides, whatever would I do with that Cragar Louvre I got 8)
-
Cragar Louvre from Ebay?
Parts cars are ones that need a little love......

Cragar Louvre from Ebay?
Yes m8.... came well packaged.... and was tip top. Pity about the securing clips eh ?
-
Well bigger me !
That was how i got it, it had been stored for over 20 years, i had no use for it as i flush fit my windows.
Im glad it went to a good home, that was a while ago though.
Its a rare bit of kit.
-
It certainly is, was lookin for a few years for one until you came with yours....
Yes it`s getting well looked after m8.... I`ll have the car ready for next summer and it`s goin on then.
-
Cant wait to see it, ( the car and the louvre ) maybe next year we can have a re union?
-
It`s very possible, I`ll be down the country with it a couple of times next year. Could sort something out .
-
That would be great mate.
Heres to next year !
Who knows the T top might be finished by then.
-
T tops are done m8.
It`s just everything that`s attached to them that needs sortin. ;D
Another "resto thread" coming on.

-
Well after my trip to the new world ive been struggling with Jet lag ( at least thats what i think it is) but i have been trying to get progress started again.
As i want to make this car different, im adding Projector headlights to the front, these include Foglights as well as turn signals..........
Ive had to modify all the mounts and plastic weld the brackets into different positions so that i can keep all the headlight adjustment......
The lights will be fitted with HID's but ive a way to go yet before that gets done....... i need to find a bumper carrier ... does anyone have one? in the Uk would be nice lol.
( modified due to typo )
-
Those lights are really cool. What are they out of?
-
Those lights are really cool. What are they out of?
X2 i really like those!
This is one heck of a project you are taking on man, can't wait to see it finished
-
Thankyou guys !!! i appreciate it.
Theyre from a European Gm car, they cost me $7.50 !!
Does anyone want to guess what model ?
-
Wow. I can't believe I haven't seen this project yet! Great work. I'm really excited for you. You will have thousands of hours into just custom fabricating. That is some awesome tea.
-
LOL nothing like the Great British Cup of Tea !!
I do enjoy the fact that the car will be different, but i plan on keeping it very much in the shape of a Trans am, but enhance the natural beauty of the cars.
The biggest buzz is when i attend shows and people just dont realise whats been done, ive had the Blue Bird at a few shows and even " Trans am " people here fail to spot all the changes, some even walk straight past.
Again thanks for the compliments, does anyone want to employ a fabricator, come bodywork, stroke mechanic? I need to change careers !
-
You just need to move over here.
-
You just need to move over here.
I wish !
PMSL Bob, do you have room at your house for " Miguel and his family " ?
Ill work on your car in exchange for Beer Tokens !!
-
Wow Sir English, I could use some of that tea! :o
I would have looked at all that rust and just cried (I haven't learned how to weld yet!)
Your project looks fantastic, I really like all the mods you've done so far, I can't wait to see what you do for the headlight grills!
Keep up the great work and keep the pics coming!! 8)
-
do you have room at your house for " Miguel and his family " ?
It's Jose' :D
-
Jeff has room at his place.
-
It's Jose' :D
" Jose is on the way ! " .................
Trust you Bob to "pass the blame" dont you want any English/ Mexicano's .
-
Looking at your pics mate, I think you win the rusty floor competition!
I'm happy to settle for second!
I give up, what ARE the headlights out of? I thought an Astra, but they don't have the 3 lights plus indicator.
<scratches head>
-
Good ol UK roads, great to really get that rust working away on lovely straight floors and just about everywhere else.
Very close mate !! Right marque, wrong model. lol.
I dont want to give away all my secrets.......
-
they are off an opel/vauxhall calibra
-

http://www.clubcalibra.net/garage.php?mode=view_image&image_id=191

Id like ( and im sure others would too ) see some pics of that 72.
-
Well ive done a little bit more, ive been toying with what colours to shoot the interior in, ive decided on one colour,
ive smoothed the 4th gen dash, prepped and painted in 2k.
-
Geez. Is that shine the paint? Can't wait to see more.
-
Yes mate and no Clear Coat !!
Oh and no booth, extraction , heat etc etc... ::)
-
WOW WOW. Wanna paint mine?
-
Yep, i love painting, especially Birds, the distance is the biggest issue.
-
yeah.lol..Just get a really strong spray gun and huge tank.
Did you sand the texture off?
-
Yes mate, that and a glazing filler called " Dolphin glaze " just to make sure that is was smooth, its a pain in the backside as the 4th gen dash is really flexible.
-
Your work looks excellent as always mate ;D
-
Thankyou, now all i need to do is get across the pond !!!!!!!!!!
-
Wow looking good.
-
A sneaky peek of what ive been up to with the centre console.....

-
Ok enough music........
Heres the centre console, i just need to finish prepping and then paint it, its a cross between 2nd Gen and 4th Gen, the sides are moulded up to meet the facia of the dash.
Check out the CUP HOLDER Hammer xxxxx lol . :-*

Nice work Steve
Looks good for sure

thats a good idea. You should do it.
-
What kind of paint did they use on that thing? It sure does shine. 8)
-
It could be worse !

Mmmmmmmm fabrication at its worst !
-
I dont think thats shine.lol.. Its the sun being reflected. Gotta be illegal NO?
-
He used Glue and a few bags of Glitter !
Remember we dont get alot of sun in the UK ! lol
-
He used Glue and a few bags of Glitter !
Poor mans metal flake? LOL
-
Plus you dont have to lacquer it !!
This is the guy that did it, just to give you an idea of his stability....
-
I like the idea of the Colonel on the hood he deals with birds not T/A birds but close enough ! and the metal flake guy with the skimpy bikini top and banana hat well I just don't have words for that.lol
-
Dont worry, at least you didnt have to work with him ! he would Da himself at will.
-
Love it
-
Love it
The Bikini ? Banana ? or my work LOL
-
All the above
-
Hmmm I don't know I really liked the console and I supposed it could have been worse he could have had the bikini bottoms on too. lol I don't see how you get anything done between the bikini's and the 24-7 music festival.
-
^^^ Dont worry mate, he left that place and went to another Bodyshop. I left there shortly afterwards.
The Bikini was found in the boot of a car we were working on, he just had to wear it.
He phoned a company that specialises in obtaining phone numbers and website address, put his mobile onto speaker and then asked the operator for Spidermans Website.
Great guy. Sometimes you just have to laugh.
-
Well a little more......... ;)

-
Awesome. Two thumbs up. You do very good work.
-
Wow that paint looks wicked on the console well done, will it be a while before the install can't wait to see it come together.
-
Thanks guys, i do appreciate it, not bad for a guy thats spraying out in the open, that sheet is my booth LOL ....
Im hoping to pick up my donor car this weekend, so it will be more mechanical work for a while, thats why im trying to get as much of the running gear and male a start on the wiring etc.
The rest of the interior will probably be of a similar finish.
-
Well ive been really, really busy just lately and apart from general life, the " silly season " approaching and the snow, ive had a slight change of plan.
Ive decided to go with a similar interior to my other Firebird.........Its BMW leather made by Recaro.

Its only been mocked into place, the fabrication hasnt started yet, but it will give you the idea.
And if you dont know about my other 2nd gen heres a peak of its interior........
-
the front seats look great. is there any way to lower the rear, I am not to crazy about how close they are to the roof. The car is comming out great though. i wish i had the courage to try and do what your doing. you will def have a one of a kind car.
-
Thanks mate, yep dont worry the rear will come down, its still has the mounts i made for the 4th gen rear seats that i was fabricating.
Its all just mocked in.
They will sit more like the Blue cars tan interior when its done.
-
oh in that case i love the seat choice. what kind of car did you get them out of. looks alot more comfortable then the back seat in my car.
-
5 Series Bmw. They really are very well made seats, superbly supportive and comfortable.
-
I just now started following this, and it's just awesome.
I like the seats by the way.
-
Thanks Kevin, hows your seat search going?
-
The seats look great! Very nice. I can't wait to see what you do with the headlights.
-
SEF the car is looking great I'm sure the Hoff is going to love his new ride !
-
Dave will only park his backside on leather...... i just think hes a snob.
I wish the weather would change, less daylight hours and freezing temperatures....... so much to do!
Btw thankyou. ;)
-
I just browsed through the thread. I must say that you are really creative. I cant wait to see more. Nice work.
-
Thanks Kevin, hows your seat search going?
Over the summer when I get my job back I plan on saving for a set of Pro Car Rally's combined with a 4 Point Schroth Harness that hooks up to the rear seat belt mounting points. The Schroth is perfect for me. Has the racing look, feel and protection without having to modify the car to make it work. Not meaning to steal the thread.
Kevin
-
Cool mate, im glad youve found what you were looking for.
As for stealing the thread......... no ones going to get hurt, does it really matter? LOL
-
Id hate to see what you could do if you were over here with our parts and a whole bunch of money! Lol
-
Just the parts would do mate ! Do you want yours modified ? lol
Id love to spend time in a wrecking yard over there.
All i need is Parts, Tools and something to eat and ill make whatever you want.
Id love to get my hands on the New Camaro and turn it into a " Proper Trans am " and not such a bodykitted Camaro...... that would take some money though.
-
I don't we could find that many BMW 's in the junk yards around here, If you did I imagine they would be expensive. They sure do look good in your car though SEF.
-
alright not to sound spoiled or anythign but every time this thread comes up from a new post in my unread inbox i get all excited hoping for new photos of some customized thing that was done to this car.
When will we be expecting more photos? :)
-
Yea Roger wheres more pics?
-
kjkjkcjkcj, im sorry mate, i have no garage or cover to work in / under and at the moment the Uk is covered with snow and ice. :'(
With light and cover i would be able to make more progress...... and then comes more pics.
Maybe its time we had an interlude.........
As for finding Bmw's in the yards over your way, im sure theres plenty more home grown cars to use, after all you guys have " all the toys " fitted to your cars...... ;)
This is a GREAT album.......... turn up the volume...... 8)
-
:P I'm praying for sunshine and warm weather for the UK, we got to get SEF off the computer and his great music :-X and back to work on the car !
-
At least when the weather is ok, i can crank up the volume on some great tunes !
-
Well back to something serious............... yeah right, ;D
For those that dont know, i decided to go back to school. I have no paperwork as such for what i do and in this day and age Papers are everything !!
So im doing the body and paint course, im in the finishing straight and facing my exams.
Today was a study day so i decided the best way to study was with some hands on experience.......... i havent done much to the car as ive been so busy doing other things and this course hasnt helped LOL.......
As it was...................
and now with a new clip that i got with a Z28 i broke up...............
Yes i know its another SBC, id love a 455 but theyre not easy to find here within a students budget..... :'( ( sorry mobile phne pics )
-
We miss hearing from you SEF congrats on going back to school, what did you think about school has it been a good experience? The study day looks like it paid off nice, oh don't worry about the motor the 455 will come by and by till then a little mouse never hurt anyone ;)
-
Mouse is the word !! id rather have a Rat,
School is good mate, but im older than the lecturer thats supposed to be teaching me !!!
Got to hang in there for those bits of paper, should of done it years ago, im a " mature student "............. apparently.
-
Make sure you mount the fan right on this one ;) ;D
Looks good mate...good to hear from you!
-
look at that little blue bird sparkling in the background.
-
At least when the weather is ok, i can crank up the volume on some great tunes !

Gunner
-
Going back to school? EXCELLENT! GOOD FOR YOU! Man its not just a piece of paper your getting, but the satisfaction of doing your thing, accomplishing the classes, and winning the prize of satisfaction of a job well done. OUTSTANDING man! I'm pleased for you. Go get em and show em how it's done!
Gunner
-
Gunner, you sound like a sales brochure ! LOL

Make sure you mount the fan right on this one ;) ;D
Looks good mate...good to hear from you!
Thankyou mate. Its nice to know your still here keeping law and order......... by the way the kettles on for a lovely cup of tea when you learn the lingo............

Apparently they don't know you at all!!!!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I think it's great your getting your papers...just hang in there and it will be over before you know it
-
Gunner, you sound like a sales brochure ! LOL
Maybe I do man. But it's nice to see somebody bettering himself and getting ahead. Thats one of the big things about the oil buisness. They'll give you a load of crap if you quit and go home, but if you quit so you can move up, everybody out in the field generally tells you to go for it.
Oilfield culture I guess ;D
Gunner
-
Thanks for the positive comments........... its a financial night mare quite frankly, but i need to do it.
Im mature in years ........
But thats all................... YIPEEEEEE.
-
hello steve just come accross this thread did not no how much work and time you have put into you trans am. bet you finish before me get some pics posted.all the best kev
-
Steve ,I really feel like once the school finds out about your knowledge of music and album covers they will hire you as the music teacher ! I know the Queen is probably looking forward to you providing the music at the upcoming wedding ;)
-
KEV !!!! mate i think the way that youre building yours i need to be worried, YOU my friend need to post some pics here of the superb job youre doing. Did you get my email ?
T/A Kid, ive been promoted to a different department, im now in charge of tourism ,
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/titter_in_britain.jpg)
I think ill do well.
but i really should concentrate more on the car. ;)
-
are those real signs or just photo shopped?
-
Real signs for real places........... its all part of the New Tourist drive.
http://googlesightseeing.com/2009/02/top-10-rudest-place-names-in-britain/
I managed to hijack my own thread !! This is a potential poster what do you think ?
-
haha very nice
-
if you stare at the picture long enough it looks like the people are moving....or maybe that's the redbull I just downed...either way they are moving..
-
Mmmmm i think its the drink Justin. LOL
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/london2012.jpg)
Dont worry, normal service will resume shortly........
-
Well dodging showers and doing the best i can i carried on working on the T top......
Ive been concentrating on the panel gaps , i rebuilt the door hinges and then spent time lining them up...
Just as i thought i was getting somewhere the drivers side latch mechanism decided it had enough and destroyed its internals.
As lock mechs are a little thin on the ground and im on a budget i went to the local breakers and found some out of a British GM car... not quite the same but nothing that i cant modify and ive got the bonus of having central locking solenoids attatched......... nothing like making more work for meself. A garage would also be a bonus !!
Perfect fit.......... no chance !
-
Your making progress SEF let us what the fix is on the door, I'm sure it will be no problem for the Queens top man :D
-
^^^ LOL , just more work ! i need the striker posts as well...... back to the yard.
-
Hi steve, you might remember me,me and my dad cut a trunk lid hinge panel out of a car that you were breaking last year,i think i have a spare door latch if u need it i can drop it in the post for you, regards Rich.
-
HI Rich how are you !!
Hows the car?
Ive started to modify my doors already BUT THANKYOU very much for the offer.
Hows your dad too?
-
No problem mate,me and my dad are fine thanx and the cars not 2 bad either,i have been dragging my feet abit but i am going to try and hang the doors the weekend&do abit more prep.
If i was as good as you,it would be finished this weekend!!!
-
LOL , maybe........ maybe not.
Nice to hear its all progressing, how about some pics ?
Its lovely to hear from you, i do like to hear how others over here are getting of with theirs, we are a minority here.
-
Did a little more, went back to the scrap yard and picked up the strikers that i needed as the Pontiac ones were far too big.....
Heres the new striker mounted..... ( sorry it was dark when i shot it all )
A short video of it all connected up and working with the flush fit handles......
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/selling/th_ttopdoorlocks006.jpg) (http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/selling/?action=view¤t=ttopdoorlocks006.mp4)
It opens so smoothly even my 8 year old son can open it with ease.......... LOVELY.
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/selling/th_ttopdoorlocks010.jpg) (http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/selling/?action=view¤t=ttopdoorlocks010.mp4)
Theres a small bit of tidying up to do, but its all working including the original interior door opener, the other side and central locking wiring is next on that particular list.
-
Nice work man.............VERY nice work.
Gunner
-
Sir English, you are very resourceful to say the least!! Excellent work! 8)
-
Thankyou.......... now all i need to do is convince a Hot rod shop the same.
-
Well a little more progress......... the rear seat is bolted and affixed in place.
Mike ( Hammer ) notice the Cupholders either side ? LOL thinking of you Buddy !
The centre storage box and the side panels still need to be finished........... but any progress has got to be a good thing. ;)
-
wow. Haven't seen this one updated in forever. Seats look good. You wont see much out the back though.
-
Craftsmanship...THAT is your middle name...or maybe Ingenuity ;)
(either way, great work mate!)
-
wow. Haven't seen this one updated in forever. Seats look good. You wont see much out the back though.
Thats not a problem, after all no ones gonna be that close to me anyhow ! lol. The small rear window cuts down Hugely on visibilty too..........
Jeff , LOL you flatter me sir. I just wanna get it finished.
-
Steve great work I really like the look of that rear seat, but I don't understand why Hammer would love the cup holders so much ? Oh never mind I guess I do :P lol
-
^^^ Mate it goes back nearly 3 years now !
Hammer was on about how he'd love to have a cup holder in his Ta, so when i came across in 08 for the Nats i gave him a VW Cup holder.
It was meant as a joke, but in a strange twist of fate, it nearly fitted where the ashtray would be, well Mike made it fit.
and so thats why, but not only is that mystery cleared up but did you know...............
The king of hearts is the only king without a moustache on a standard playing card! and
until the nineteenth century, solid blocks of tea were used as money in Siberia! Phew.
-
How much is it going to cost you to ship that thing across the pond when you decide to leave the land of hydraulic sunshine? Because that would be TOO big of a crying damn shame for you to leave a work of art like that there ;D
Gunner
-
Mate ill sell it, buy up a load of Bm seats and ship them.
That way i can start with a more solid group of cars !! ( as in no or little RUST )
Sunshine, what is that ?
-
Good old English hydraulic sunshine. You know the stuff............makes puddles ;D
Gunner
-
What on earth do you mean mate ?
-
What on earth do you mean mate ?
You work for the tourism board don't you? I mean, thats a light DRIZZLE..............If it were really RAINING you couldn't see the building in the background.
You're just trying to get us to move the Nationals to Norwich this year, aren't you ;D
Gunner
-
LOL, that was the Sunniest pic i could find mate.
On a serious note, weve had some superb sunshine here, ive got 2 weeks off so i feel alot of body work getting done............ i just need to decide on the colour scheme........ any suggestions Sim ?
-
Custom or stock color scheme, and what interior colors?
Gunner
-
Stock ? STOCK ? dont you swear at me........... >:( ;D
Custom of course mate. Interior has the Black Leather........
im open to ideas mate , and seeing as its mostly you and me posting at the mo, i thought id ask.
-
Stock ? STOCK ? dont you swear at me........... >:( ;D
Custom of course mate. Interior has the Black Leather........
im open to ideas mate , and seeing as its mostly you and me posting at the mo, i thought id ask.
Ok think about this
Black seats, black dash, black console, black carpet. WHITE headliners, door panels, roof liner and back seat panels. Black rear window deck
Across the BOTTOM of the fender seam and around the body lines Slate grey metallic (It's an imron color but I'd bet anybody could match it. Across the TOP of the body lines, metallic grey. 1 inch piping around the windows and doors in slate grey metallic. Red penstripes where the colors meet at the seams. Red/Grey/Black 78 Bird.
I KNOW this combo works. Thats how my first one was painted. And it was a WEAPON.
Gunner
-
Thats interesting mate, one thing.......... i have NO body lines as such, all creases etc have been smoothed, im going for a Euro smooth look.
Do you have any pics?
-
No unfortunately I don't. Only ever had one pic of that car, and my ex brother in law managed to ruin it.
Gunner
-
What if you just faded it from light to dark. Start metallic grey on top, then faded down to the late grey metallic at the bottom?
Gunner
-
Thats interesting............ i do enjoy painting fades, flakes, candies etc etc........
-
Its been a little while , ive been busy tightening up the gaps etc......... finally shot some primer on the body.
Its been guide coated with 3M powder and will be blocked down by hand, that will keep me busy for a while.
Like my Garage ? LOL ;D
-
WOW that looks AWESOME! Question: Why the flat rear window instead of the wraparound? Was the car originally like that, or did you change it over like that?
Gunner
-
I changed it, partly because it was cheaper for me to get that one and 2, its easier to Flush mount them, they'll be no trim around the front or rear screens, I had a mate's 10 year old son round, i was teaching him how to spray.........
Operation DESERT SPRAY
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/securedownload2.jpg)
Thanks for the compliment Sim, ;)
-
The car's looking excellent mate...it's definitely come a long way since you picked it up.
Great to see you passing your talents along to the next generation, too
-
That's starting to look really cool Steve!!!
-
Thankyou Charlie, do you like my BOOTH ? lol.
Jeff, do you recognise the Spray gun ?
-
wow what a work of art. I can't believe you have been doing all that work in your driveway. Keep up the good work.
-
Jeff, do you recognise the Spray gun ?
I do ;)
-
I thought you might mate...... in all fairness i use it quite alot !! For a cheap and nasty gun , it performs quite well......
Dont you just love Harbour Freight !! ;D
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee92/thebigv8/firebirdfront3002.jpg)
-
You've definitely put it to good use...like any tool, it's the hand holding it that makes the difference.. not the tool itself.
-
Steve, my dad and i have used a similar booth only We didn't have the bennifit of water filters to control the dust... ;D ;D ;D
-
Looking great Steve!
-
looking great steve you will be racing down the motor way in no time. hoping to have my engine sitting in the cradle over the next couple of weeks. what colour are you going to spray it. kev
-
Cheers again for the positive comments guys !
Filters Charlie ? Oh yeah, in my outside booth i have none.
Kev, long time no hear on here. How about posting up some pics of that Stunning car mate?
Colour? im not sure yet, im toying with the idea of a Candy, hopefully in the next few weeks i should have a base colour done, then ists descion time......... any thoughts mate? I do like to do things a little different.
Jeff that sounds like something i should write on a CV....... lol. Anyone wanna employ an English sprayer?
-
tried posting pics but keep saying to big . still cannot get the hang of photobucket not very good with computer
-
What about emailing them to me? or do you have a 5 year old nearby?
If you like ill try and resize them ( well the kids will ) and ill send them back.
Im sure somewhere on here theres a thread about Photobucket.......
-
Just read the entire post ..looking forward to watching the build.. I do like the 2nd gen to 4th gen flavor you have going on there.. Great job.
JOSH
-
Put some colour on today, ive got a couple more coats to lay down and then the clear..........
Theres still so much left to do !

What can I say mate...I really like your choice of color.
The car is going to look excellent when it's done ;D (which looks to be soon)

Thanks Bob, ill be honset i really cant wait to get the paint finished and see what difference the clear makes.
-
Love the color! Clear is gonna make it really stand out. Wish I had your skills but you do give me confidence. I'll be painting mine byt the end of this month (if all goes well)
Can't wait to see it cleared...be looing for your post!
Rick c.
-
Very cool. This is one of the color choices I have given thought.
-
Cheers again guys, its appreciated.
Rick, just take your time mate and if you want to ask questions, just pm me ! I'd be happy to help mate.
Ive got a few more things to do before i shoot the clear......... but when its done ill post.
BTW everything i do is on a tight budget, im a full time STUDENT !! lol.
-
Oh my god . Look out world
-
That looks great even without clear. I do see you have been cutting corners though.....Shame on you birdy!
-
Do you mean the end caps? LOL
I didn't have any and couldn't warrant paying the prices that some people in the Uk think that they are worth, so i had an old Fibreglass centre section that i cut and modified to make the ends. Besides i like to be different.
I modify, adapt and make what i either cant afford or dont have......................... i made a remote trunk release yesterday with parts from a Mazda , this will be trimmed and mounted by the Driver..........
and yes i know you can get a solenoid trunk release, but same again its all about the cash.
-
Thats a great looking project, should have got you to sort my car out !!!! hope i get to see it at one of the show this year and keep up the excellet work,
Cheers
Darren
-

i am sure with that car you wont be birdless for long. sure they will be birds at the show that will sit on your hood lol
-
Shhhhhhhh don't tell the wife!
I've got a long hill to climb.
-
Gearbox has be rebuilt, lots of worn parts, just waiting on engine, was hoping to have it done in time for billing but not now, so i will be going in the norma car as well, are you a member of the pontiac owners club ? that would be a great project to pu on their forum as well ;D
-
Im a member on the forum , but not at all active. I have mixed feelings about them........ at the moment i'd be happy in getting the outside finished and hitting the road......... i can build the rest later.
So how about some piccies of yours? Theres still August mate !! ( Billing )
-
I like it Steve!!!
Cool colour
-
Thankyou Charlie.
It is appreciated. I know the car wont appeal to all and its far from a Resto, one day i will get a " Standard " one, but in the mean time...........
-
steve is this the mauve one you had under cover . did it have a bit of a special engine. your brain works in a weird but good way with all these mods ;D
-
It was under cover mate when you came up for that roof, special engine......... i wish ! lol.
I think thats a compliment you just made hahahaha. Thanks Kev.
-
your brain works in a weird but good way ...
I think thats a compliment you just made hahahaha.
I think it's more of an observation mate ;) ;D
-
Dont burst my Fragile Ego.

LOL thanks Fly........... not so sure about the Master bit.... cheap....... definitely.
Ive made all the weatherstripping from a European car, and no they dont leak !!
Its just all the small things, nuts and bolts etc, we use a different thread here..... it just makes more work for me.
Im building it up though......... just dodging the rain and of course great music helps.

Rick C.
-
Thanks Rick, i appreciate that.......... as for the Benny Hill theme, im sorry about that, just try and think about the scantilly clad ladies chasing him about.
Jeff, i know its a mess, but you " gotta break a few eggs to make a nice cake, better than an omlette ".

What do you have for an engine & gear box combo?!
-
What do you have for an engine & gear box combo?!
You dont want to know !! LOL > lets just say that financially the car owes me less than $1250 usd and that includes all parts and materials so far.
I bought a donor car, parted it, used what i needed to get this one further along.
In an ideal world, a bored 455, or you may hate it, but a 572 BBC, i have a very unhealthy obsession with speed and power...... but the days of care free cash have passed and now as a family man, i can no longer be selfish.
Its a SBC, its been played with, plus its easy to get parts for here, it came from a 2nd gen Z28 which i know has seen some 1/4 mile action. So there you are.....
-
Lookin good mate. Now finish it up you made it very clear how you wanna make it to that show coming up on the 19th lol. (Plus we all wanna see it finished)
Josh
-
Im trying my best ! Wanna lend a hand ?

Nothing wrong with a SBC power plant, at least it's still GM!! 8)

THANKYOU ! the amount of grief that i cop because i dont run a true Injun, most Uk cars have an olds 403 and thats seen as true Pontiac !!
Josh, never say never and Charlie, thankyou.
Just to give you an idea, i needed to make up a blanking panel, i had an old Ford bumper lying about so the best thing for it was to be used for a higher purpose.
The ultimate in recycling.
-
I know I am going to get crap for this but oh well. Its nice to see someone find a use for a Ford after all :P j/k Any updates mate?
-
LOL Josh, i knew one day it would be handy.
Nothing really as of yet, just trying to tidy up all the small things, just been working on the door cards, thats alot of plastic welding. I need to rub down the alloys and refurb them..... fit the front screen, so on and so on.
-
cool at least the list is getting smaller are you gonna make the show?
-
One way or another yes mate.
-
Nice work Steve
-

Gunner
-
Nice mate its nice to see you steer cleared of the rain for a bit lol.
-
Yes the car is coming right along SET, looking good. I have a couple of questions though did your son ever get his toaster repaired? And what music are you listening to at this point of the project? These are terribly important questions I'm surprised someone hasn't. Ask already ;)
-
Cheers guys. ;)
Mr Kid, ROFL that really made me laugh........ you crack me up.
No the toaster was er, toast. A for music, at times like this , it needs to be played real loud, just ask Renovations.
Hank is one Crazzzzy dude, like a dozen cats getting strangled.
-
Wow sounds like a great group ! Do you think you could bring them to the Nationals the next time you are over? That sounds like the kind of music that Renovations
would love !
-
Maybe ill ask them to do a Live set ? LOL.......... watch the crowd run....
-
excellent. This sure is coming along just great. This is going to be one of those cars you have to stare at for hours just to see all the cool changes and detail.
It is also nice seeing a car turn out so great without needing the huge shop or professional paint booth. You give hope to the hopeless(aka ME)
-
The cars looking good. Are there some kinda scoops in the hood looks like heat extractors maybe it's just a light illusion.
-
Justin, that really was a very nice thing to say, thankyou.
I wonder how many on this side of the pond will spot everything thats been done?
79ban1 Well spotted !!! yes there is mate. It still needs to be flatted down, but heres a piccy.
Can you guess where they came from ?
-
Sir English...you're my "inspiration" for backyard painting. Your car looks awesome. I see you're already wet sanding. Should I be doing so as well? I figured I needed more "leveling" and coats before I smoothed the primer. Let me know..I'm a quick learner but this is my first full car paint job (I went down to bare metal first)
(and no..I have no idea where you got those scoops but they're really innovative....perfect)
Rick C
-
Hey, what happened to the orange?! I like the vents on the hood!
I was going to cut the vents/scoops out of a third gen T/A hood and put them on my Esprit hood, but never got the chance.
-
Well those look like they might have come off a 80 or 81 Z28. nice little add there.
-
SPOT ON !!! yep they came from an '80 Z28. Camaro's do have some uses..... ( only kidding, but this is a TA site ;) )
Deadfish, im going to pm you mate, it will be easier.
Ct Bird Fan........ the orange .......... honestly, i wasn't happy it.... lol. ::)
-
Sir English, what color are you going with now? Looks great so far!! 8)
-
Heres a sneaky peek.......... its not finished yet..........
Its going to be flatted down and shot again to gain some deepness..... thats a straight black, no clear.
I do think its about time i got somewhere decent to paint though !
-
Wow, very nice!!
-

-
That looks great mate.....nice Knight Rider car ;D ;)

Another piccy....... ive got 3 days to flat, buff and finish off all the " other " jobs i need to do...... :-(

-
LOL yes Mike....... its got to be legal for the show im attending.
I set myself a goal, its an American car rally, we plan on staying for 4 days. I just couldnt turn up in anything else but a Firebird, regardless of what it looks like.
It would be like warm beer, a hangover without drinking or missing a Cup of tea in the morning, its just not acceptable to me.

Before pic. What a difference.
-
Very nice Steve
-
Yes you have done a lot of work, it has come along way.
-
So cool man. I am getting goose bumps watching this thing come together. Some custom designer shop needs to hire you and pay you some big bucks even if it is to just pick your brain. Its so easy to look at an all original car and build a duplicate because the information is already out there. Its another thing to customize a car all in your head and make it work for real and you are doing it all on gravel. WTH We need some music.
-
oh yeah and seriously. Those door handles look freaking sweet. The paint kinda hid them for a sec when I was first looking at it. Awesome.
-
Wow, lookin good Steve.
Best colour too. Very nice 8)
-
Music i hear you say....................
I just wanna get in it and drive.
As for a job, ID LOVE TOO !! anyone?
-
Nice work Steve. I'm still finding little hail dings and stuff. Raining like crazy here yesterday and today so not much accomplished. should be ready for color next weekend. I get Mondays off too so that helps (when it's not raining that is!) Hope mine comes out as shiny as yours Dude!
Rick C.
-
Thanks Rick, you have my contact details mate, any questions just fire away.
Heres a couple more for you all.......Im still going to take it to the show, but it wont be finished, theres only so much 1 guy can do !

Ya...I sent you an email a few days ago. Maybe I made a mistake. I go back and look. I don't see anything that tells me it didn't send properly though.
I did try some color this weekend, just to see if I got what I wanted. All I painted was my mirrors and a test panel. the color is perfect if you're in the sunlight but in the flourescence of my garage..a little too much purple (suposed to be burgandy). I'm going to try a little red microflake in the first coat of clear to bring more red hue out. I have plenty of time to play around since it looks like more rain coming for the end of this week. I think I'm getting English weather here in Connecticut right now!
Rick C.

Ill pm you again Rick.
I havent had anything mate. :-(

Looks great, even if it does have Camaro parts on it, lol! 8)
Very stealthy, I wonder if it will be invisible to radar?! :o
-
I think you may be on to something that way Prince Charles and Camilia can ride along with SEF and the crowd can't track them down and try to beat them up :o
-
Looks good mate bout time for the paint jk. I am glad it will be done enough for the show I was afraid you would miss it.

Yes I have. I used to be a radio DJ for about 6 yrs Late 70's duo that had some success with " I'd really like to see you tonight" number one on A/C I think, also had another called "Nights are forever with out you". They had a few others but thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Bet you never thought you'd put up a group that someone actually heard of huh? :)

hhhhmmmmm sure blame Keegan, looks to me more like someone fell asleep on there keyboard jk.
-
Well im back.
I cant believe that i can post these ( to me ) obscure albums and not only do people know them, they can remember lyrics !! Damm you guys are good.
Well the show......... I think there was about 8 Birds i saw, 2 first gen, 2 second, 3 4th and poss 1 3rd, not such a good turnout, the only people that took time to speak to me about the car were, non Bird people....... i got a negative comment about the front lights on the car, which i agree , they dont look that hot, they should have lenses on, but i only had the one, so i feel they may change ( and that was from a friend ).
Maybe if i'd restored it in an English half a** way then it would of been more accepted ? as it struck me that painted over turds seem to attract more attention. LOL.......
I was going to rant on about how nice you guys across the pond treat fellow Bird owners / lovers and how it hasn't crossed the pond..... except the fear of being totally "ostracised " by the Uk owners stops me.
-
dont worry about the negatives. You dont know if something works on the car until you try. It's not like you cant just swap them out. Keep your spirits high. I know hat you mean about turds getting more positive comments then something that has more time and detail into it. I just smile and nod.heehee

At least we appreciate the great work you do, especially with lack of parts you have over there! Don't let a few flies get in your ointment, your bird is awesome and keep daring to be different!! 8)

Im gonna look for a different set of lights, along the same theme, but with lenses !! lol.
Loving the album Dave !! LOL.

From previous discussions mate, I know what you mean....for those that look down on craftsmanship and ingenuity, screw 'em!!
-
Well heres a short video of the car from the weekend just gone.
I have no idea of the sound, as when i was away, the computers speakers were mysteriously smashed !

I had to do it man. Looks and sounds BLOODY AWESOME! VERY VERY well done!

Dont worry Sim, i spent a fair amount of time behind the wheel, but i do let my mates drive, after all , if they dont experience the pleasure of America...... well im just not doing my job.
-
Looks and sounds great, Steve. I'm going to try and get one more day off to finish the paint on mine. If I can then I can beat the storm that's coming ( hurrincane Irene will surely give us a little bad weather) Anyway...I could be driving her next week. If I don't beat the storm, it'll be two more weeks. I'll have to figure out how to do a video and video post.
Nice job on yours. Wish they would've shown you more love though...lot a of work and innovation went into your ride.
Rick C.
-
Sounds great man. By the looks on his face he was more then happy to drive it.
-
Cheers guys.
Ill be honest i didnt know until 2 days before the show, if the gearbox was even ok !

The car looks and sounds good Steve, I'm glad I can't photoshop very well I would have put a member of the royal family behind the wheel, It might have created an international incident every world leader would be clamoring for a SEF built Trans am.

I say , excuse me old chap , I must agree the lights do look crap ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks guys, i thought snobbery was dead in the scene here, but its alive and well and talking to a guy thats into the Jap scene, it seems that its across the Uk board.
Ya know what I say to em ;D
Crack on m8..
It`s your motor...
Thankyou........ i was probably a bit too general on us UK owners... guys that find this site are normally more open minded and less " clicky ".
Ah , Sir English . I agree with you totally on the " UK " part , but as you know we Scots are different ;D ;D
-
Thanks for your honesty Keith, theyre gonna get changed out, but nothing original !!
I need some thin european lights that are cheap.

Seriously it must be tough to find just the right lights that you can make work. But I know you will get there eventually!
Speaking of kids, I have one out of the nest (he's 20) and a 12 year old to go. They sure keep me busy, both time wise & money wise, lol!
