Need horns and problem with flashers
« on: July 24, 2011, 11:07:57 PM »
Got the 78 back from body and engine shop, will post pictures soon.  The horn doesn't work so I picked up relay from parts store, replaced under dash--man that was hard to find and change.  Think the one I pulled was original, stamped Canada.  Well horns sounded weak, actually think one wasn't working.  Noticed in Ames and Classic catalogs the set runs around $100, anyone change out with something else more reasonable but sounds fairly TA sounding?

Also flashers don't work, could that just be a fuse?  Thanks all!

If the flashers don't work, it's usually a bad flasher.

Sometimes the horns can be made to work better by spraying some lubricant inside them. I used PBblaster penetrant. Take the horns off. Spray some PBblaster inside it, turn the horn over a couple times so the lubricant can get further inside it. Let it sit an hour of so, and then pour the lubricant out. Then connect the horn to the battery and see if it blows better. Also, the horn is grounded by the bolt that holds it to the brace, so be sure the horn is well grounded.
