Actually, it's Derrick St. Holmes.  He and Ted had a falling out, which was too bad, because Derrick was/is a terrific singer.  They kind of patched things up a couple of years ago, but it was past their prime. 

I guess that I've seen Ted some 14 or 15 times since 1977, solo or with Damn Yankees.

The Northerners (Union Army) were referred to as Yankees during the Civil War. Another term would be carpetbaggers.

Though yes, Damn Yankee is a group also.  I actually saw them in concert.  Not too bad!  One of their famous songs was "Can you take me higher"  Other than that, I don't know what else was a hit with them. LOL
