Is there a difference between Trans AM and Firebird Trans AM
« on: February 18, 2009, 10:28:27 AM »
I just bought a 77 Trans AM. I was told that the car was not a firebird Trans am model just the Trans am model. Was there such a difference of a firebird Trans AM and a plain Trans AM? I know there was the plain firebird and the firebird Trans Am. How can I tell what I really have. It has the Trans am dash, shaker hood, rear spoiler, non T-top.

A trans am is a firebird with trans am option, scoops, shaker, flares etc.

Right, the Firebird is the base model with the Formula, Trans Am, Esprit, etc. being different package levels available for it.

as far as I can tell they are in decent shape. From the top there is the usual light surface rust on the driverside follr under the pedals but no holes or large flaky rust, everything else inside felt solid. Could not see from the bottom, tires were flat and surrounded by weeds. The trunck has the electic button in the glove box and I could not get the key to work. I know and trust the seller and he said it was in good shape :-\. Gotthe car for 1,200. wanted t-top but can change that later.

Yeah looks like a great project car.  But why is the motor orange?  did they come from the factory Orange?  I thought they were only pontiac blue

Yeah, basically they are all Firebirds.  You can look at it this way:

Firebird
Firebird Esprit
Firebird Formula
Firebird Trans Am

Whoever was telling you it is not a Firebird Trans Am does not know what he is talking about.

How you put it is how I thought it to be. But keeping in mind the person who was telling me this is the sort of guy who know it all about it all ;D ;D.

The pic below does that look like the pontiac 400 or the olds 403? Or what is it.

The car is supposed to be delivered on Friday so I will get some better pics of the whole car and post them. This is a dream come true, finaly owning a piece of classic hot rod history! :o :o

I don't see the big oil spout in the front so it's not the 403. Probably a 400, but I'd guess you would have to check the #'s to see what it is for sure. I don't know where or what numbers to look for, but I'm sure someone else on here does.

Congratulations, by the way!
