1978 Y88 special edition for $500?!?!
« on: June 24, 2009, 10:57:43 PM »
hey everyone just wanted some opinions here because I just found what i think might be a great deal.
I heard of a guy in my area that had a bunch of trans ams and parts and when i went to check it out
a gold trans am behind one of the buildings on his property caught my eye. i noticed it was a t-top car
so i walked over to take a look. upon checking the cowl tag and seeing it said y88 i inquired about the car
and how much the man wanted for it. it is a matching numbers car with barely more than 60,000 on the odometer
its an automatic but for $500.00 good deal right. personally i dont care for the y88 gold editions as much i want one
of the black and gold special editions but if nothing else i can clean the car up and make a little off of it right? as far
as rust issues the passenger side front floor pan needs replacing and the drivers side lower quarter needs a patch and
thats it.

whaddya'll think?

Sounds like a good deal ...but hard to say for sure w/o pictures.

If it's been sitting, I'd check the chassis and frame closely for rot.

I'd also check to see if the t-tops were the correct gold-tinted ones.

I'd give 500 for it just being y88, there is one close to me for 1500 and i think it was 4 speed not for sure. Does it have a title?

Seriously though, if for whatever reason you don't buy it, I would post the location so someone here that lives nearby can give it a good home. WAY BETTER than some dumb hick that doesn't know what he just bought taking it to a demolishion derby and really ending its life.

I would go for it, even if you didn't do anything to it after buying it you could make a couple hundred dollars so you can get what you really want
