I think if you get 2 cans of each color, you'll be safe no matter which way you paint them. That's just my guess.

Found this cool article going pretty much step by step on this. http://www3.telus.net/68bird/wheel_restore.htm now I just need some money for the materials. I thought about how much easier it would be to blast the wheels, and did a little looking online. I found this cheap blaster online. You think it would be satisfactory in this application? For $30 it has to be cheaper than paying a shop to do it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006QN0RL2/ref=aw_d_detail?pd=1

Yes, that's a siphon blaster. You can probably find one locally for less money and save time and money on shipping. Look at your local auto parts stores, hardware store, Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, or Sears, and maybe Walmart. All you need is the gun and the hose. Stick the hose in a bag of sand and connect the gun to your air supply and you can blast. Lowes has some good Premium play sand that works well for a reasonable price. Wear a good dust mask, since inhaling sand dust isn't good for your lungs. And a face shield. It's not as powerful as a pressure blaster, but it can get small jobs done.

How much media do you think I'd need? Would the 10lbs included be enough for example? And what's the difference between using sand and the stuff that it comes with, that ground glass? I actually like the idea of blasting it myself. If I'm ever gonna really restore cars in the future its always cool to know how do to stuff yourself.

10 lbs doesn't last long at all. You can get 50 lb bags of the Lowes premium playsand for about $3.50 a bag.

I called a local shop to see how much they'd want to blast them. They said $25 a rim. That's out

If you have a compressor, you should just get the cheap siphon blaster gun with hose. It'll come in handy for other things.

What do you paint the back side and the edge where the tire goes?

Nathan, For the backside of each wheel I went to the auto parts store and bought a couple of cans of Duplicolor's metallic grey SUV lacquer based wheel paint.  It is different than Eastwood's Charcoal grey Rally paint, but not by much.  I felt that More paint was needed than what was offered in the kit.  I also cleared the faces of each rim for added protection using Duplicolors clear wheel paint.   I went with duplicolor because that is what Ame's has in their kit for the argent silver and I have to say it is very durable, beautiful shine.   I have posted these pics before.

Hey guys I have come across some money and am wondering, should I be able to find the paint I need (OER Argent Silver and Placer Gold) at a local store, or would I have to get it online?

The argent silver you can find at an auto parts store.  As for the gold, many paint supply shops can mix the color for ya with the right amount of hardner and put into a ready to use spray can.  A friend of mine did it at a local shop here and it cost him about $15 for a very large can of the paint for his car.  i would also clear your finished product with duplicolors clear wheel paint for protection Nathan.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, we're blasting the rims this week and I don't have paint. Plenty of primer though. How long can something sit in primer?

It can sit for quite awhile as long as it's stored in a dry place.

Can anyone give me the paint codes I can give my teacher to get some paint mixed? I need the argent silver and the gold color on the snowflake wheels.
