1979 SE hard top--How rare are they???
« on: September 22, 2012, 12:14:35 PM »
Does anyone have any idea on how many 1979 SE hardtops were made. I have heard from a few hundred during 1979-81 to unknown. they seem to be uncommon and I just picked one up that a previous owner had de-special editioned when they were somewhat fixing it up and repainting. They put the red nose emblem, red center caps, and silver dash bezel in it during their "restoration". I have the build sheet and PHS docs to prove it is a SE. I know Pontiac did not keep official records on this variety, but maybe someone out there knows. its a 79 403 auto, no A/C, blk/blk SE hardtop.

if you go by statistical data. we know about 1850  were built in 77  out of 15,567
se cars.       In 1979 11,554  black se  cars were built.  So if you use the 11%  ratio
of hard tops to t top cars in 77 and apply that to 11554 cars in 79 you could expect to find 1270. hard top black se 79 ta's

There are 4 i know of on this forum
