That looks just like the shape of the shifter hole in the carpet I just took out of a 78 TA that I believe to have been original.

Your 72 may use a piece of vynil on the rear hump between the rear seats. If not (and for anyone else installing carpet in a 78 or so TA).......

One piece of advice regarding installing new one piece carpet. START by making SURE that the carpet is positioned so that it reaches back under the rear seatback at the hump !!!!  DO NOT start by positioning the carpet at the front. You may come up short at the rear edge. Ask me how I know.......... :-[

It looks like mid 70s T/A had one piece carpet, or is it I just can’t see the seam? The 72 has two pieces of carpet. Thanks for all the input guys!

The original steering wheel had cracks and holes in the foam and the spokes were faded. After test trying a few different ways to restore the foam I got the best results using SEM #39708 Flexible sem-weld to repair the foam & Krylon Fusion satin black plastic paint for color. As for the spokes, paint would start to fill the brushed aluminum and it looked like paint not anodized aluminum. So I tried a fat Sharpie permanent marker and used it like a brush in the same direction as the brushed aluminum spokes and it look like black anodizing. All the materials are easy to use and work with, I’ll let you know how it holds up???

Honestly, how do you even think of those things? I'm really impressed and curious to see how it will hold up... the foam should be fine but I'm curious about the sharpie and whether it will rub off.

I know it sounds a little hokey, so much so I wasn’t going say how or what I used. But the color & finish looked so original and it was so easy (two coats 1hr between) I had to pass on the info. It will not rub off with casual contact and I tested Groits Garage int cleaner as well with on rub off, however if you had some type of solvent on your hands or a rag, yes it would rub off quicker then paint. Unlike paint the marker is an easy touch up!
Thanks!

How did you apply SEM-WELD, finger, brush, smooth edge?
Did you sand it after?
What grit if you did?

I have been wrakcing by brain trying to figure out how I would do it.

Was going to get it wraped in black leather but that is really costly around here

Looks great and what a great idea

I used a plastic putty knife and my finger on some spots. It sets fast so you have to do a little at a time.
Thanks!

Sorry to a PIA but did you sand it afterwards?

I used 180 on the high spots and switched to 320 between coats of sem-weld. Tape off and stay away from the stitching!
