Topic: horn mechanism nut size.......

Hey everyone, small question, but I am missing the nut that holds the inner horn mechanism to the inside of the column collar. Anyone know what size and thread this nut is supposed to be? Does it need a washer too?

I have a tap and die set for American Standard threads, and 9/16"-18 is what fits on my 77 and older columns. I don't know if they went to Metric threads in 78, but even on my 79 column, it seems close enough to screw on tightly. I don't have a Metric set to check if there's a metric size that fits better. There's no washer.
