1971 400 in 1978 TA
« on: March 14, 2007, 11:08:23 AM »
Hello I am going to buy a 400 pontiac out of a 1971 catalina to put in my 1978 TA.  I think the motor mounts are different from 71-75 than the 76-79.  I maybe wrong.  Will it work and has anyone done such a thing.  If so can you give me some pointers.  The reason for doing this is i have a 403 olds.  I bought a t-10 4 speed transmission and cannot find a bellhousing flywheel ect...  to fit the 403.  I want my car to be a standard.
Thanks any help appreciated

if you have a pontiac bellhousing then the pattern is the same to match up to the oldsmobile motor..the only thing with the oldsmobile motor is it doesnt have the pertrusion for a swivel ball, nor is the crankshaft machined to accept a pilot bushing for the tranny...you can make it work by fabbing up a boss to screw in the swivel stud, and either pull the crank and get it machined or chop some of the shaft off on the tranny....
