Title: Door lock?
Post by: 79TeeTop on March 14, 2011, 02:30:22 PM
I need some guidance on where to start looking to chase down an issue.

Already had the driver's side door panel pulled because the carpet at the bottom was torn up. I pulled it to take it to the upholstery and waiting for it to come back at the moment.

Last evening I had a few minutes and pulled the passenger side panel off.

Ever since I've purchase the car (79 Trans Am) the pass. side door lock has not worked.

It doesn't work with the switch but it also doesn't work if you try to manually push the lock down. I didn't have any time to look at it last night but it appears the lock is frozen or stuck.

Any ideas on what I should look at and / or replace to get the lock on that side working?

Obviously, in an ideal world I'll eventually get the power lock working but for the time being even being able to reach across and push the lock down would be an improvement. Currently, I can't drive the car anywhere unless I can keep an eye on it because I can't lock the passenger side door.

If you have the panel off, look down inside the door as you try pushing down on the lock ...you will see how the assembly links/works...may get lucky and just need a shot of WD-40 in the latching assembly.

If it turns out, you are missing any of the linkage inside the door, give me a shout ;)

Somethings binding.  It's all mechanical.  Could be the solenoid is froze.  As Jeff mentioned, so WD40 may help.
